Can the Omnias even use Latitude?

I do not subscribe to the Verizon GPS junk, so will my omnia even use latitude correctly?

I guess I'm confused on whether or not it relies on the phone's GPS, or whether it determines your location by pinging your phone from cell towers.

Are there any Latitude gurus out there? I have a couple more questions about it too...

From what I have heard it can. But it may be wrong. I have downloaded it to my phone but won't allow me to sign in. I type and nothing shows in the Screen name or Password section. If anyone else has used it let us know.

I had the same problem when I installed it. It's because you are using the Samsung Keyboard. You have to change it to another one and it will work fine. It's a bug that they need to get worked out.

Re: Can the Omnias even use Latitude?

Did it and it worked. Thanks. Now I'm finding out that I can see my friends but they can't see me. So I'm thinking that the Omnia doesn't have GPS. I did a serach in the phone and it says that you need to choose a port from the settings and go in "external GPS" and that isn't there.

The GPS on the Verizon Omnia is locked. You can only use it through their VZ Navigator app and have to pay a monthly usage fee.

But, I thought Latitude was supposed to be able to get your location from cell phone towers OR GPS. But, it's looking like more and more that it relies on GPS only...

Re: Can the Omnias even use Latitude?

I have Latitude up and working on my Omnia. It uses public WiFi locations to find yur position. When I am in a metropolitan area it works OK (within a couple of hundred meters)l But I live in the country so it cannot find a location.
