one option from samsung-omnia.org:


Main menu - settings - voice commands check the enable box on the top right. Check messaging, then options - announce new messages. Then notifications - check announce notifications using BT hands free only, or announce notifications using BT hands free if available.
Turn on your paired BT headset.
Send yourself a text message.

so i would say to have it announce without BT, since you have the phone volume down, it would just like the screen when she (your mobile assistant) talks
or if you have BT your set!

don't get me wrong - i gladly cope with that problem...

This is by far the best winmo device i'v ever seen - (on verizon at least) i've had the 6700, 6800 and got the touch before this...blows them all out of the water

I guess the jury is still out on that one, but considering it is the next generation of the Omnia (even the name indicates that - i8910) I am guessing it will be a pretty safe bet to use WM!! The main question is when/if it will be released in the US!!
