Re: New Ominia User Questions
OK then....lets see what we can do here....
1- I am not too familiar with this one, but I can suggest enabling flash in Opera (go into the config screen) and I have heard CorePlayer handles a lot of different formats. (worth a shot I guess) 2- There are a few TV apps out there, most you need to pay for. DiamondTV is one that has limited useage for free: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33534 3- For backup, I use SPB. I have also heard good things about RESCO, but I have used SPB for years and it is easy to figure out. There is one file that registers as an error, but it doesn't affect the usage at all: http://beta.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/ 4- There is an HTC one that is free: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...t=htc+ringtone 5- I am suprised VZW won't sell you ring-back tones...have you called and asked? I am pretty sure you can use them, it isn't a function of the device (that I know of) rather a service of VZW. I answered best I could on a few, but if you need more details/sources/ideas, or just have more questions please feel free to post!! |

I can answer a couple of ur questions...first off 30 days will NOT be enough time to truly get used to the Omnia...but if you've had a WinMo phone before then u should be okay... first things first ur Omnia has limited internal memory, be sure to install every program u download on to the "My storage" card as well as any pictures, ringtones, mp3's and video's as far as a back up program I suggest Spb Backup, its not free but I've used it on my XV6800 and now the Omnia and it is flawless... If ur using Opera try going into the settings in the browser and go to the advance tab and enable Java and the Flash plugin.. Ringtones are pretty straight forward I have an MP3 splitter/slicer or editor on my laptop, I open the mp3 file with this program cut the song to part I want save it and transfer it to my phone...beats paying for ringtones that don't play the part of the song u really like... and I have ringback tones on my Omnia...you have to first go to verizons website and enable ringback tones on ur account (.99 cents a month) go to the ringback tone section and create an account it should work fine....

Re: New Ominia User Questions
I guess pdub73 beat me to the punch...I just confirmed ringback tones work on the Omnia as well, so your good to go there!!
A lot of our replies were the same, so I think out of the past couple posts you have some pretty solid answers/solutions there!! |

You are simply extending your home setup. Not only can you watch TV but you can program and/or watch your DVR from your phone or laptop. I can't count the times I'm unexpectedly delayed and use my phone to tell my DVR to record a show or game then I can watch it on the way home or when I get home or in my hotel room. |

Re: New Ominia User Questions
I've occasionally looked into Slingbox as well, and have heard great things about it, but I can't rationalize me spending that much just to get TV to my PPC. I am not saying it isn't worth it to others, I just wish they had a cheaper alternative. I would spend 50 to (possibly) 100 for something like that.

Re: New Ominia User Questions
I would tend to agree with that price range for PPC only.
Extending Slingbox viewing to my laptop is probably what makes the price right. Anywhere I have my laptop and internet, I can watch either live TV or the stuff I have sitting on the DVR at home. Makes being stuck in a hotel room more "homey". In addition. when on the road I can sling my home's local stations and not be stuck with the local stations of where I might be. In the summer this keeps me and my Cubs in sync either live or time-shifted no matter where I am! Got off-topic though! If we're talking PPC only TV viewing...never mind! Re: New Ominia User Questions
I agree with you Jonv...if slingbox would offer different pricing scales depending on usage I would definetly give it a serious look!!!

Sling box is great...I live on the west coast and I use it to watch shows on my brother-in-law's DVR in the UK. |
