I figured out how to get the Omnia to charge via USB when powered off.

Connect the Omnia to a PC while it is still powered on, then power off the device, it should show the black battery charging screen. It will not work if you power the phone down and then connect it to the usb cable. This has worked for me on three different PC's so far. Try it out and let me know if it works for you.

No, it sure didn't. I will try it with my laptop later.
