Problem charging Omnia via USB when powered off
 

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I just noticed when my phone is turned off and I plug it into a PC connection via USB cable, I do not get any acknowledement that the device is charging (i.e. red led lit on power button or battery charging icon on screen). I don't recall touching anything in the registry that might have affected this (did the low batt dispay edit) and I am stumped as to what might be causing it.

It seems to charge fine when using the wall charger and the device is turned off.

Has anyone else heard of this happening or had this happen to them? Let me know.

How very curious, mine does the same.

The Omnia must require a driver to charge via USB. I know something is different there, because my Dare can pull a charge off my laptop when it is alseep, yet my Omnia cannot. All the more reason to believe its driver related on the phone and computer end.

OK. So I'm not the only one with this problem. I thought I messed something up doing some reg editing. I guess this was the first time I tried charging it via PC with the power off on the phone. Not a big deal, but it is something that should work. Oh well, with all of the other good things about the phone, I guess I can let this slide.

The phone is off, I somehow doubt a soft reset will fix an obvious design issue.

I agree. The phone is powered off at this point.

I did try to power the device on, soft reset, power down, and the same thing happens.

restart the computer?
i`ve had this happen before.
i soft reset...and it fixed it.
any pc with a usb port will recognize this phone and give it power.
so its either your port, your PC or your phn needs to be...soft reset.

Tried it across two computers. Soft reset is nice for devices...that are not turned off.

Any other ideas?

I have had the same results as Adrynalyne. I've now tried it over three computers, across about seven different USB ports, and using two different USB cables. It will not charge when the device is powered off and plugged into a PC. Don't tell me all of the abover have issues with them as my XV6900 (when powered down) never had an issue charging with any of the above listed computers.

Bu the way, no problem charging via my wall charger or car charger when device is turned off and it charges without a problem when connected to a PC and the device is turned on.

You know what, I don't think its the Omnia at all. Look at your USB connection to the phone and look at the wallcharger--they are wired differently.
