Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Your best bet (if you don't want to spend the big bucks that is) is to wait until someone cooks a ROM for the i910...it shouldn't be too long really!!
edit: This case does bring up a VERY good warning to all i910 owners...do NOT flash with an i900 ROM....they will NOT work!!!! The i900 and i910 are similar, but very different devices, the ROMs are NOT interchangable!!!! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
hawaii man, posting 4 times probably won't get an answer any quicker...
can you still get to the phone from USB? |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Any ideas on how how to disable the alarm that goes off when the phone is fully charged, other than turning down the system volume. I have contacted Verizon and Samsung, but have yet to find a solution. I have also searched through the registry, but couldn't find any existing keys that looked like they controlled this (but without knowing the exact key, I definately could have overlooked it). I also went through all the sound files on the phone and it appears to be similar to the notify.wav in the windows folder with the addtion of a single beep that plays before palying this wave file. My intentions are not to flood the message board with this, but would like to find a solution before I ultimately return an otherwise great phone.

"Lock Device button won't disable...!
Greetings - and Happy Holidays, fellow Geeks!
As I attempt to learn the quirks and pluses of my Omnia, I noticed that there are two prime issues I have with the device... for one, even with the ear piece's volume set at the highest setting - the phone is uniquely quiet. I've mused about same in as yet another posting. In an effort to hear calls better (outside, for example) I opt to use the Speaker whilst on a phone call. And here lies the problem... Like nearly all of my fellow Omnia brothers and sisters - I am caused to hit a series of buttons before I can begin a conversation - they being not just the Answer button (if receiving a call) but also the freekin' "Press the Action Key to unlock the Touch Key"... and THEN I can depress the Speaker button. I suppose it was Samsung's idea to avoid any accidental button depresses when someone is on the phone and it comes into contact with the user's face. I know the iPhone has addressed the matter by turning off the screen and associated features when the phone is held against the face (...duh...). I thought that the Omnia shared a similar feature. If this was it - it ain't worth the effort. I know that in the Settings option, there lies a section called Buttons - where the user can "customize" his or her special (yet highly limited) selections... one of which being under the End Key. Sadly, this selection, albeit shown - is (sic) locked-out (pun intended...). Any suggestions - this side of a virtual can opener...?!?! |

I installed iconsoft phone extender. replaces the built in dialer and has much more functionality.

I did a bit more reading, it looks like this is not just a dialer like I thought at first, and I don't want to lose my S2U2 caller functions....oh well :-) !! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Here's a quick fix regarding the audio alarm sounding off... (I've done the same on another device and it worked perfectly for me...)
Find the name and location of that particular sound file. Now, record a brief sound file of your own - of less than a second of "white noise"... nothing... and save it with the same name as that of the alarm setting. Now, move the newly created sound file to where the original is and allow it to overwrite the original. Voila - no more alarming sound...!!! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
How can I change the default directory that pictures get stored in, and when apps go to find pictures? It current points to "My Pictures" but I want them all stored to an expandable memory card. Some places I can navigate there, but some places just only look at the My Pictures directory. And I can't figure out how to save camera shots there automatically too.

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Thanks for the suggestion Image911. I will give it a shot.
>>>In regards to the comment: I'm a little surprised you'd return "an otherwise great phone" over something as inconsequential seeming as the sound that plays when the charge is complete. Is there some particular reason that makes this such an issue? The reasoning is because I don't care to be woken up to an alarm that goes off in the middle of the night to let me know my phone has been charged and will repeat itself until I acknowledge the notification or unplug the charger. |

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Rather than returning the phone due to the charged notification, you might consider a program such as PhoneAlarm where you can use a timed profile that turns off the notification volume at night.
|
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Actually, if you use PhoneAlarm... you'll find it also will assign sounds to features you didn't have activated prior to installation.

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
@ Image911: About your post #49-once you've answered the phone call (or the outgoing phone call has connected) press and hold the send key (or whatever we're calling the bottom left hardware key) for a few seconds. It'll turn the speakerphone on even with the keylock activated. Works in essentially any WinMo phone. Don't remember where I picked that up, but it works (just tried it). As an aside, I have not had the soft volume problem on mine.
I have had some pretty crummy battery life...may be discussing this with VZW soon - think I may have gotten a bad battery. Anyway - I'm trying to figure out a fix for the problem mentioned in #23: "When entering a name in either Sms, or email "to" field no names from contacts pop up. In every other WM phone ive had, names automatically pop up as you type. On the Omnia, nothing pops up." Terribly annoying to me also. I can go through the Phonebook program, but I like going straight into Messaging better. Any suggestions? |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
battery full alarm waking you at night?
Plug in the headphones w/ your charger adapter. |
Re: "Lock Device button won't disable...!
Okay, I tried this alternative to the standard dialer that came with the Omnia... and couldn't wait to drop it. Yeah, it loads, and I used the password - as supplied, and it nestled into my phone like a bear settin' up for a long winter hibernation. Trouble is - bears tend to sh*t in the cave whilst sleeping... and, despite the fact that PhoneEx does give you a large Caller ID, the thumb flicking of the supplied Contacts list is NOT as good as it should be, and - more importantly - when you end a call, the screen more than occasionally LOCKS and will not switch back to the dial pads... making any attempt to call someone else a futile effort, at best... necessitating in having to do a warm reboot. Once was enough... but, every damn time is about more than one can ask for. An expensive endeavor - sepecially if you've PAID for the program. Makes one appreciate that which was already supplied by Samsung.

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
I got the Omnia a few days ago, so far I love it. Coming from an HTC Touch, I miss the ability to make programs close completely when I hit the "x". I find that programs are constantly running in the background on this Omnia and ruining my battery life. Is there a way to set the Omnia up to close the programs completely when one hits the "x"?
Thanks. |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
I think HTC X-Button is what you want - you can set it to close programs by tapping X or by holding it.

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Hello fellow Omnia users,
I'm new to this board and the Omnia is my first smartphone/ppc. I'm reading the forums and trying to pickup tips and tricks as I go along. Right now my biggest problem is that I'm running out of memory in "My Device" and I keep getting a warning popup. Does anyone have a list of things I could safely move to "My Storage" in order to free up space. I have put every cab in "My Storage" and installed everything to "My Storage" when it gave me the option. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
gatorbyte....welcome to the forum!! I think you have the right idea about installing apps already. A majority of apps have been proven to run smoothly from My Memory. The memory message your getting is also a known issue, but it isn't with all users. Look into your memory under settings and let us know what the numbers are, and what apps your installing.
I also want to add that if you do a lot of online things, you may want to empty out the Opera cache occasionally (I run Memmaid about once a week). For some reason Opera keeps quite a hefty cache and can cause the issue you see!! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Thanks for the reply. My memory under the main tab shows this
Storage Total: 88.17MB In use: 79.41MB Free: 8.70MB Program Total: 97.35MB In use: 36.51MB Free: 60.84MB I have SPB shell, Google maps, and a program called Quotrek that keeps track of stocks. I looked in the Quotrek folder and it says it's 1.08MB. |

Holy Cow!!!! I guess that is a problem!!! Have you looked into the Opera cache yet? edit: another idea...do you have VZApps installed? That has been known to cause a few fun problems like that!!! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
I already cleared my opera cache to get it to the numbers I posted. I do have weather and I think one other vzapp. Could I just delete that whole application because I sure wouldn't miss it?
|
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Not only can you, but I would suggest it. Another common side-effect of installing VZApps is losing wi-fi!!
I am not saying this is definitly your problem, but it is a VERY good start, and with as few apps as you have installed right now, I don't feel as bad about suggesting the next step being a hard reset and starting from scratch! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Great! I'm going to try that and you probably just solved another of my problems as I have been trying to figure out why I couldn't get wifi to turn on anymore. I guess Verizon has some work to do with there apps(I think that goes without saying). Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.
|
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
Feel free to ask away!!
I an pretty confident at least the wi-fi issue will be rectified, but let us know about both, if the memory isn't improved, we'll take the next step!! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
I've got two more problems I've been having recently with my Omnia:
1. when I set a clock alarm, and then turn my phone to silent, the alarm still is heard loud and clear regardless if the phone is on silent or vibrate. Any suggestions besides turning off the alarm? When the phone is set to silent or vibrate, isn't that supposed to silence everything? I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the Omnia software alarms (you can make as many alarms as you like) are separate from the Windows Mobile alarms (which limits you to three alarms). This may be the reason the Windows Mobile setting of phone silence is conflicting with the Omnia software. just a guess. 2. When making or answering a call, the phone sometimes goes into "emergency mode" which only allows calls to 911. Firstly, I'm not even sure how the phone gets into this mode. I think my ear hits something if I put the phone up to my head too quickly before the screen lock engages. But that's not the problem, I can figure out how to get it out Emergency Mode. The problem is the resulting notification that "you can only make emergency calls in emergency mode". No mater how many times I dismiss the notification it is still there and can not be cleared unless I turn the phone off, even after exiting emergency mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for your time and help! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
For the first issue...the alarms you set, are they using the Samsong alarms or the WM alarms? Personally I think this is a great addition, but if your using Samsung's, when you create an alarm, one of the options is 'Sound Profile' I think if you change that to System, that should follow the profile you set for the Omnia (vibrate, silent....).
As for the emergency mode popping up, I think that may warrent calling into CS and possibly switching out for another Omnia, I haven't seen/heard this one yet. If you have made an emergency call, maybe there is a setting or switch that needs to be made (on my 700wx I had to turn the phone radio on and off again), but other than that, I think a call into CS may be in order! |
Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!
I couldn't agree more, I think the Samsung alarms are a great add-on, because I have more than 3 alarms I like to use. And yes, the alarms were set to "ring" and not "system". That fixed that issue, thanks!
And if only I knew how I was getting into the emergency mode. It's only when i'm using the phone... I can't figure it out. The strange part is that mode is not listed anywhere in the manual. I guess I'll have to call CS. |
