go into your "clock" program and set it there. the alarms setting sucks. I set my alarms in the clock program for better options and more tones to choose from on dumbphones you can press 1 then send or hold it for 2 seconds, like the Omnia. my iconsoft dialer lets me tap the favorite twice and it dials, press and hold or press it then send.its not free but its awesome are you using the mobile shell dialer or Omnia dialer? i loathe the mobile shell dialer.thats why I bought the iconsoft, for the BIG contact pitures, dialer pad and ease of use anyhoo set your alarms thru clocks(blue picture of a clock, not mobile shell clocks) not alarms |

If I upgrade to wm 6.5 with one of the roms will it change things like the alarm functions? I don't want to sound too cheap but I hate the idea of adding $ for a shell, $ for an alarm, $ for a dialer, etc, etc. Seems like the basic stuff should already be there in a "smart" phone even if it is an older model. |

Re: Noob needing some direction...
launcher, programs, phone should allow you to use the Samsung dialer.
before you spend ANY money look up an app called Open Market. its got hundreds of free apps categorized, reviews, it installs them, uninstalls them. its very nice and works well on the Omnia1 custom roms will state what is included in them and you can add anything you want thats not in it in the form of an app. base roms have the least so you have to add more of what you want. ex., if I want base rom with WM6.5 and msoffice I install the base rom that has WM 6.5 and can add the msoffice in as an app or find a base rom with msoffice already in it. hope that helps. it seems you are starting to get the hang of it |

In frustration this AM I uninstalled spb shell. So now I'm back to square 1 but with a little more experience (and a degraded attitude). So I'm understanding that a custom ROM is much like a shell only it rewrites the basic os code instead of operating on top of the win os. Is that right? I'm a little cautious of the custom roms because I keep reading about minor conflicts with added programs etc. I need to re-read this whole thread with my better understanding. Openmarket was suggested to me early on but I was overwhelmed with too much info that I didn't understand (little brain). So maybe I'll upgrade to wm6.5, figure out how to back things up, etc. You know, start from square 1 again. Thanks for you help and all who've helped so far. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Good thing I'm out of work and have lots of time.... |

Re: Noob needing some direction...
Ok, question about opnmarket. I downloaded and installed this program and had a hard time registering because it wouldn't seem to go thru my wifi connection. So I did it via evdo and that worked for registration and the home screen came up but when I did a search it said it couldn't connect. same for trying to get to the categories page. so I turned off wifi again it connected to the categories page. Can I not use my wifi connection with this app? do I have to use up the 20mg of data Page Plus gives me or download files to my pc then email them to myself so I can get them on my phone? (in which case I wouldn't need the app)

Re: Noob needing some direction...
I just posted this on HOFO but thought I'd post here as well hoping for an answer before I come to a bridge:
I have a new-to-me omnia and I'm wanting to backup before upgrading to wm6.5 etc. Via the opnmarket app I looked into backups and settled on pim backup. Only it is apparently not available at this time. So I switched to ms my phone app. That one downloaded but wants me to sign up for an online account. OK, I'm game but when I went thru the signup process (using the application) it got to where I had to verify 6 characters in a box. I could see no characters in any box. I tried to refresh and it went nowhere. I went thru this process 3x before I gave up. So, back to pim. I figured I'd just download it onto my pc and transfer it over to the microsd. Downloads ok and it's an exe flie. I was expecting a cab file but I don't know if it makes a diff. Anyway I try to email it to my phone but gmail won't allow emailing of exe files. So OK, I try to transer it via usb. My pc won't recognize my phone...has no drivers for it. Ok, so Active sync. Oops, I bought the phone used and didn't come with the cd so I don't have necessary software on my pc. OK, I'll just pull the microsd card from the phone and put it directly into the pc. This seems to work... file transfers seemingly ok. Only now with the card back in the phone I can't find the file. There are several files present and dated today: hwaround, mxip_lang, mxip_notify, and pim but clicking on any of them tells me there's no application to run them. If I can't get some help here my next plan is to throw the phone off the next bridge I see and go back to a dumb phone which probably syncs with my brain better. Thanks! |

go to microsoft and get activesync 4.5. its free what happens is the exe has a cab in it that installs via activesync but exe wont work on the phone itself. youtube does the same wifi error thing to me.dunno why but open market is an app for ppcfreeware.com( i think thats the online full size site) |
