Considering an Omnia

I'm in a position to get my mom an Omnia for virtually nothing. I have a couple of questions for y'all:

1) Is it usable by someone who has virtually no knowledge of cell phones and computers?

2) Can it do tethering?

If it does tether, I'd set that up for my mom, since there's no way she'd figure that out on her own.

I appreciate any info or opinions you care to share.

Re: Considering an Omnia

Yes, if she reads the manual, but I'd imagine someone like my mom (maybe yours) becoming frustrated with it easily, whether it's because of how complicated it is to use or with the quirks of Windows Mobile (lagging, using the task manager to close programs etc). Out of the box, the Samsung programs are easier to use than stock WM but there's a lot more to it than most people are used to.
It can tether officially with the VZ Access manager or can be set up with MS Internet Sharing/WMWifiRouter (instructions on this forum, doesn't come included with stock ROM).
I enjoy the phone, but like I said, wouldn't recommend it to the average user who wants the phone to just work.

Re: Considering an Omnia

I would not suggest this for a "casual" user. Go with something a littel less consuming. Certainly NOT a windows phone. My mom knows computers fairly well and I wouldn't get one for her. Besides the touch screen isn't really user-friendly.
