EV keeps switching to 1X

My phone keeps switching to 1x from EV when data apps are used. It can have full strength EV signal and still switch to 1x. I have VerizonWireless with the stock i910rom. Any clues on why I can't get EV data?

I recommend the usual *228 and update update your rom if you haven't already and if that fails to do anything, call customer service. I don't know of any other changes that could be made on the phone to stop this. also keep in mind that the phone switches to 1x for SMS and calls.
