You could enable the Windows Mobile Settings and try the button assignment that way using a registry editor : Turn on Windows Mobile setting Icon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\ amd change Value 'HideSettings' to '0' You can also try AE Button Plus on the web.

+1 to AEButton Plus. For rotation I use OrientationDetection -works like a charm!
