Changing ringtone for text

Anyone know how to do this?

If I change the following: Menu > Settings > Sound and Display > Notification Ringtone it's only for email.

Nothing for text...Am I missing that setting? All I get hear when I get a text is a dinky 1 second ding.

I was also wondering if I can tweak the length of the vibration or set it to repeat or something. I'll have my sitting on my desk and I won't even hear it vibrate since it's so light.

Anyone?

Open Messaging, Click Menu, Then set notification.

I'd recommend Chomp SMS. Lot better than the default messaging app

Chomp is not as good as Handcent SMS
Handcent is HIGHLY customizeable. Actually, its too customizeable.

Chomp only has the default bubbles style. It looks lame to me. I like basic and easy.
There are some other settings i use in handcent, but i dont recall what there are.
There are like 30-50 options on here. it crazy.

Re: Changing ringtone for text

I use handcent SMS. I can change my tones, I can give every person a diff text tone. the only problem is, if I assign a song for someones text tone, I either have to listen to it till it's done, or unlock it, pull down the notification bar, and clear notifications, otherwise it continues to play... as opposed to just hitting a button and it stops ringing.... is this just me or...?

Re: Changing ringtone for text

I used to use ChompSMS and recently switched to handcent and don't anticipate a move back anytime soon. For ringtones and alerts I use Ringo Pro. It's very cool and well worth whatever it costs ($1.99?).

I used handcent a while back but there was some sort of bug that was killing my battery in under an hour. I'm sure it's probably fixed by now but I'm pretty happy with chomp. Don't fix what's not broken right? But there are a lot more customization options with handcent. Just haven't switched back yet.

I will probably start using it when 2.1 finally drops since chomp decided to slip in ads. I haven't updated since then.
