Sometimes I have had to restart the phone too to even get the download to start.

how funny. i just did the root and the 2.1 yesterday. would have been a lot easier just to wait. anyone going to this from the leaked ones we have had let us know if it is worth the bother of doing the real update

I been on them all....I like it so far...still tinkering, just installed the joeykim v7 root from sd card after flashing the 2.1 tar.

I just downloaded and flashed worked great. I am really glad it is finally here , could not wait till morning to download. I will play with in morning though, hope it was worth the wait...I am happy with sprint again

I'm guessing you don't need to unroot your phone to install this?

no.......but you need to root it with joey's v7 from your sd card after you flash to 2.1

Do I need to downgrade from Caulkins before I try and do the Sprint update?
If so, do I need to return to the original sprint rom on the phone and where can I find it to download? took a quick look and didn't see any mention.

No downgrade, no need to return to original..its on sprints website.
