Then can you please list out the exact method that you are trying which is failing? From opening Connectbot/BTE, every command that you type in and the exact error message that you receive?

This will help up to help you. The more specific that you can be, the better.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Need some help. I rooted my phone earlier today with joeykrim kernel and everything went great. Even did a backup. but when i was trying to remove the crap i couldnt get su to work in connectbot. So i saw someone in hear say that u needed to update. so i tried the update and something went wrong. i cant get into recovery with vol- talk end pressed just shows sdx screen. and when i tried to just reflash it using the utility it get to like 53% on utility but only alittle ways on the actual phone and just hoses up. Any suggestions of where to go with this?? Im thinking of trying to do it on another comp incase the drivers are messed up

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Welp, looks like i bricked my phone.

I was able to successfully load Z's 14.3 Kernel. I went in a removed some of the sprint default apps. When I tried to remount it said the device was busy so I just typed in reboot in the terminal. Now i just keep getting the same error:

'The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.'

I can't do anything, it just keeps crashing over and over. I've even done a hard reset but once I start setting it back up, it starts crashing with the same error again once my conctacts start to sync.

Anyone have any ideas? I knew I shouldn't have bothered.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

if you're getting to the OS and getting applications errors you haven't bricked your phone. You'll need to reflash your phone using the Sprint Utility... Flash back to CL14 and start over... If you can put your phone into the download mode, you'll be fine...

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Thanks so much. I found the thread on Caulkin's and it seems almost too easy.
You mean this is all I need to do? That's it? WOW

ROM Flashing (Step 1)

For Recovery 2.+ Console
Copy update*.zip to the root of your sdcard
Power off phone
Press & hold Vol down, talk(green) & end(red) buttons until boot logo displays
Select Apply zip from SD and select update*.zip
Reboot when done or flash the restore tar

Restore Flashing (Step 2)

For Recovery 2.+ Console
Copy data_backup*.tar to the root of your sdcard
Power off phone
Press & hold Vol down, talk(green) & end(red) buttons until boot logo displays
Select Data options, then Restore and select data_backup*.tar
Reboot when done

I think I still want to read everything again though (lol) you'd think I would be braver about this seeing as I would flash my Titan/Mogul all the time. Could be because I got the mogul on ebay for like $50.............This one obviously I paid a bit more and my DH would kill me if I bricked it. (grin)

Oh yeah I have a Samsung Moment with the Sprint Official 2.1 Rom originally. I did the steps above (installed DE03) but when i try to run the Sprint updtate.zip it says e:signature verification failed....

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

When I installed the wireless tether program it says "not root"

I am new to android and just got my phone last night. I follow the insturctions and Im pretty sure I rooted the phone. What I did was installed the samsung update utility and downloaded this file: SPH-M900_MR2_DE03_REL_1-joeykrim-recovery-2.1.3 and replaced the binary and did the update and now i am on 2.1. Is that all I needed to do to root? I watched this youtube video where the guy also put some SDK v5 file in the sd and tried running it, which I didn't do cuz I tried it with another "custom SDK" and it ended up making my phone get stuck at the "Samsung" logo when the phone turns on, so I ran the samsung update utility again and put this file back on: SPH-M900_MR2_DE03_REL_1-joeykrim-recovery-2.1.3

One thing tho, on step stick it says:
8. Check build MENU>SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>BUILD NUMBER if it reads CUSTOM KERNEL VERSION you've rooted your phone

but when I go there, it says : Eclair.DE03 , is that what I should expect?

any suggestions?

thanks
