Most excellent, the easy part is done! Now get in there and clean up your phone of any apps that you don't want and start messing with stuff

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

First, I'd like to thank elephant007 and everyone else who contributed to this thread. Despite Vista's best intentions to prevent me, I was was able to root my Moment to Zefie's 14.3 kernel.
My phone is faster, cleaner, and I was able to get rid of all the crapware that Sprint tried to shove down my throat.
Thanks again!

I didn't know it at the time, but I deleted the stock IM application. While this is nothing more than a mild annoyance at best, I did use it. Is there any way to get replace it without going back to stock and starting over?

Sooooo. After rooting my phone it constantly jumps back and forth between Evdo and 1x. Didn't do this with the stock kernel. Anyone else have this problem?

Might want to check to see if you're set to HOME ONLY or AUTOMATIC
Settings>Wireless Control>Mobile Networks>System Select

Set it to HOME ONLY

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Thanks for the easy instructions.
I have 2.1 on but I can't gain root access in connectbot. I type 'su' it doesn't let me in. I'm trying to remove the bloat ware as instructed.

This thread is for rooting 1.5, you might want to go to Calkulin's thread on 2.1, there's steps there for rooting your 2.1 there and how to remove bloatware.

I did go to his thread for this (bloatware and rooting)...it links back to this thread for rooting. So thats why I posted the question here and there, just in case. My bizzle.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Yes he does point back to this thread
I think his intent was to use this thread to help people use the Sprint Utility to flash their phones and not necessarily root their phones, I don't really know what the intent was for on this 2.1 ROM

With that said though, let's see if I can try to help you...
when you type su, do you get an error?
