Backlight won't shut off on external power...

I own a Samsung Intrepid and so does my wife. When mine is on external power the backlight turns off after the selected amount of time, as it should. However, my wife's backlight stays on the entire time it's on external power. What's strange is the backlight on her phone turns of normally on battery power.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you!
