Re: Custom Taskbar

Guys, lets just try and calm down! We all want these icons so lets just wait patiently. The point has been made on both sides of how annoying it is to hear people's requests. Now this has gotten out of hand so lets just try and move on with these perspectives in mind. This is taking away from what a great and useful forum this is! Deal ladies and gentlemen?

thanks for the tutorials, tsowen. i'm using the tsowentaskbar 3.14, but for some reason the start icon on my ROM still displayed the stock windows logo. i decided to try editing my own and figured i would share it. i also have similar icons with a smiley, cross, or a window. if i get better with image editing, i just may take a crack at some of the other icons.

Everyone needs to please chill out. We are moving as fast as we can juggling 3 different schedules across 2 countries and life happening. We're very, very close to a release, and I can promise you that know of the delays have been because we wanted to. We want to release it but we are not going to until we make sure that everything works and is viewable on your phone. Our goal is to make this immediately usuable for as many different phones and services as we can, both CDMA and GSM. We've run into a few hiccups with things that didn't look as good on the phone as it did on the PC screen, and we've had to change directions a couple of times, but it will be worth it.

Thanks!

FYI, I've archived about 270 posts. I did this to clean up some of the debris. This archiving process does not change your post count or thanks post.

As a few senior members have already pointed out...y'all need to chill and wait for the latest release. Please be thankful for the hard work that is being done (for free) by Mr. tsowen, et. al (too many to name). If you like their work be sure to hit the thanks button.

Coz

Fixxxer2008,

Here is your new start icon! You can use Resco Explorer to drop this in \Windows after changing the name of your original file.

Thanks to:
MightyMike, 12aon, MysticGenius, HTCLeener, GadgetFreak, sunnyin86, Juggalo_X, Original Artist of some icons at DeviantArt.com and anyone else that I might have missed.

Okay so I wasn't ready to release but here you guys go, I will just have to update the version like before. Instructions are below:

1. Unistall any taskbar you have installed previously.
2. Install sdkcerts and soft reset (visit my thread for this file)
3. Install my taskbar and soft reset
4. Install nuepowerdriver and soft reset (once again visit my thread for this file.)

If you run into problems visit my thread for the FAQ portion it also had the correct battery registry settings if your battery % is not right and has the registry edits to change your bars from 5 to 7 or 7 to 5, whichever floats your boat.

Now for those who just want the dll's and not the cab version I have created a zip folder with just those files in it so you have your choice.

This taskbar is VGA and is both GSM/CDMA, this bar is the most complete one to date as you can see below most every icon has been covered to include the LargeTitlteBar. For the QVGA gadgetfreak is working on a release and should release right behind me within a day or so. This release also has the Notificationmanager.dll which is for the new TP2 Manila that xboxmod and crew are working on at XDA so your icons will match with this as well.
Code:

BT Discoverable.bmp
BT On Mode.bmp
BT Stereo Headset.bmp
CDMA_RSS_PPC.dll
GPS-icon.bmp
GPS-icon Mask.bmp
LargeTitleBar.dll
HTCVolumeControl.dll  -- New Version to match MightMikes ROM
HTCLTB.png
HTCLTB_320x240.png
notify.dll.0409.mui
outres.192.dll
pchanOvermbmp.dll
PictureMailRes.dll
shellres.192.dll
Stereo Headset.bmp
tapres.192.dll
tshers.192.dll
VoiceCmdRes.dll
NotificationManager.dll
MMSRes480x640.Dll
htcStartMenuService.dll
WLMMessengerResources.192.dll
_setup.xml

Here are all the icons I used with some extra variations that I didn't use as seen here: (visit my thread to see how to change out the icons yourself, very easy to do) There are a lot more icons in this file, icons from previous traskbars plus a lot of different start icons as well.

Enjoy

Here are the cab files for both the QVGA and VGA versions of the new HTC Rhodium Notification Enhancements.

Important Note: DO NOT INSTALL if you are using a ROM with a SYS base under 21000. You risk screwing your phone up big time! I'm not responsible for anything this messes up!

I have been running the new notifications for about 2 weeks. It is not perfect yet, in fact, for the QVGA version, I have the new pop up bubbles disabled until the display bug gets figured out. (The QVGA cab disables this by default). The VGA version should work but please feel free to PM if you run into problems.

This what the stock version looks like. I have replaced the signal icons and the notification icons on the left side to match the TB6 Elite Theme

This is using the latest version of the Notification Enhancements, so don't worry about it interferring with the Xboxmod Rhodium mod that is in Beta.

Here is the matching Arcsoft MMS dll, all cabbed up and ready to go!

3-25-09 UPDATE: CAB & Zip updated with corrected dll files.

And here is the QVGA version. All the icons match the preview that Tsowen posted above. This is to be considered a BETA version of the QVGA version as I have not yet had a chance to test it. Make sure you do your backups, with the usual understanding that you are modifying system dlls, and unforseen consequences are always a possibility. Please let me know of any issues and if someone could toss out a couple of screen shots, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I would like to thank Tsowen and HTCLeener for allowing me to jump in a the last moment and help, and to Darren for the kick in the pants when I almost made a major boo-boo... Thanks, guys!

The other one with the drop shadow and when you add the % in there the battery was too small, I did this as input from previous bars where users asked for a bigger, brighter battery. As stated before none of us get paid for this and we were not able to take as much time as wanted since I had that injury along with my partner at work. I included all the icons in the post under the release of the taskbar and it has that battery set for anyone who wants to take a stab at it. Also that battery has been used by so many so I was going for something different. Maybe in future updates I might change the battery out depending on how much free time I have. My next project is my TF3D icons and then finish taskbar 3 with help from gadgetfreak.

I can add to that too. The version of the battery that I started with was actually about 8 pixels skinnier, but when I started imposing the percentages on it, you couldn't see the battery and the numbers got lost. So therefore, I had to widen the battery. Remember that even with a 480x640 screen, these icons are going to visibly half the size that you see them as on your desktop.

From everything I've been told, a sys of 21000 or up was needed, but, depending on what's actually in the rom, I've seen some folks over at XDA report that they have the gwes from a 21000 build or higher and that allows them to use a lot of the new bells and whistles with out flashing a new rom. I don't even pretend to understand how they are doing that, but I have seen it mentioned. And sorry about the double negatives. I was writing htat with my son in my lap and the cat walking back in forth in front of my monitor. I'm kind of surprised it was even readable...

The notification enhancements are for 21xxx builds. If your build is less than that, ymmv, but its very likely that you will not be happy.

1st thank you nelly for pointin out PEexplorer (easier to understand, more so than reshacker)
2nd thanks gadget for the qvga version of TB6 elite (havent installed on phone but i was goin threw the dll's of what i like)

Gadget,
inside your dll the start icon is 41*41 and all other icons are 32*32, is this right? (i mean i have no clue whats right, thats why i ask. all i know is i read post 1 qvga (start icon is 21*18 (21*21))

helpful person (who wants thanks) oh and (doesnt say search, cuz believe me i been),
so i been readin an RE-reading every post w/ instructions and i have to say its mostly 4 VGA. i mean to say there isnt much on QVGA. i understand they have the same process (pretty much) but as far as editing goes, i'm still a little lost. i did do 1 dll (not sure how it turned out, yet) its the tapres dll. 1st i unsign, 2nd i open in PEexplorer, then i have sum questions 4 you 1)do i only edit/replace the files in IconEntry? or do i have 2 do stuff w/ bitmap, or group icon, or string? 2) what size for icons (qvga)? is it the same as start icon 4 qvga, 21*21(21*18 )? 3) does the # of the icons in icon entry matter? cuz 1 dll (like the TB6elite phcan) has more #icons than original phcan? 4 ex. i like the battery and want to keep all other icons original, so i would want 2 save all the new battery icons and then open up the original dll and replace them w/ the old, but there is more icons for the new battery than original so what i do then? i think i have more questions but my head hurts so thats it 4 now and i hope i'm understandable cuz yea i dunno.

thanks 4 any help

p.s. to all the creators (2 many 2 name, u know who you are): i think every1 should try 2 edit dll's (at least 1 time), and then and only then will they (me) understand the hard work you go threw and the time it takes. i understand now and apreciate it. i will figure this out and when i do i share.

Hi Gadget & Tsowen,

sorry to bother you again. i tried installing the new elite of tsowen but encounter the same problem with the Largetitlebar as previous when i did it with you. then i tried to uninstalled it but encountered some problem with uninstalling it. finally, a quick way was i restore back system using sprite ( backup copy of yesterday) - not knowing that sprite will not restore back the dll file i guess.

now somehow, my HTC start icon is lose. i tried to drop the shellres into windows that you have provided to me before. but don't work anymore unlike before so simple. I think i've probably mess up the shellres.192.dll and shell.192.dll.0409.mui.

in summary,

> largetitlebar is still stock
> i'm attaching shellres.192.dll and shell.192.dll.0409.mui for your reference

Pls help and advise what is needed to be done?

Re: Custom Taskbar

Okay, for everyone that has been posting questions, while we are happy to help fix all of the issues, concerns, etc, I'd like to layout a couple of ground rules:
  1. Please don't keep posting the same question over and over again if you don't get a reply immediately. This kind of thing leads to Coz coming through with a meat cleaver to archieve and delete posts..
  2. Please be aware of the time zone factor. A lot of folks were wanting answers last night, but were asking at 3:30 in the morning Texas time, where both myself and Tsowen live. Your not likely to get an answer from us at that hour.
  3. Requests to change this or add that, or I don't like this, why did you change that are good as far as helping us refine what choices we make in the design process but there are 2 things to consider:
    • This takes time. We just got done with the task bar. Tsowen made the choices he wanted for each icon or series of icons. We just don't have the time in our lives to go in and make all of these individual changes for everyone that want's them on such a large project.
    • Scale: When you change out all the icons in the taskbar like this, there is not a batch process or a quick and easy way to do it. It's one at a time, in several separate dll files. For example, a battery swap involves changing 102 images in the dll, and that doesn't include making hte changes in the HTCLTB as well so they match.
    • Learning: We all learned to do this on our own, while we don't mind answering questions, (Not at all!!!) it would be far more productive if you want to change the battery or whatever, that you carefully read the first page, and the post over at XDA (first 5, I believe) and experiment on your own. You learn how to do something that is really neat and you can persoalize your phone the exact way you want it, not how me or Tsowen or Nellyo4 envision it. So to be blunt, don't be lazy and let us do all the work, jump in and try it yourself! It's not hard, just time consuming...
  4. Please understand that for next several days we are going to be focusing on trouble shooting. For me personally the HTCLTB is going to be a big issue, as well as the QVGA bugs. To help us out, so we can help you faster, please do the following:
    • State type of phone and screen resolution
    • If you are running a custom ROM and which one it is
    • State if you are running any other programs (like wktask or Quick Menu) that make changes to the taskbar
    • If possible a screenshot of the problem
I'm sorry to lay this on so heavy, but as we've stated time and again, we are doing this for fun and to pass these on to a community we enjoy being a part of, but we are not developers, we don't get paid for this and we do have other things going on in our lives that cut into our time here. So please be patient with us and we will help you out. Thanks!

KJ,

The process is is virtually identical to VGA, but what matters is how detailed the icons are. High detail icons that look great on a VGA machine look awful on hours. When I get sometime this afternoon, I'll work with you so you can understand the process. Thanks!

With that being said everyone please refer to post #584 I could not have said anything better myself and I agree with Gadgetfreak 100% We will get there and the end result will be happiness for everyone just like all my releases. Give us some time like I said I was not ready to release but with all the are they done yet post I went ahead and did so, so this is the end result just like the xboxmod Rhodium release, he was not ready but to please everyone he released and now they are a lot of bugs that he is aware of yet he gets 20 different people telling him the same bug he already knows he has to fix.

Did you install the SDkcerts first? If your getting a permissions error I would assume it is that, if not I think it might have to do with the HTCLTB.png
HTCLTB_320x240.png
try the sdkcerts again and then the taskbar if it continues to fail then I will make a special cab for you without the above two files however several HD users have installed this already so I am not sure what is going on.

This is something I'm working on. Part of the reason that default icons always look clean is that they are simply white, 1-bit, icons that can be scaled up and expanded with few to any artifacts that are visible. Just hang on for a day or two and I should have something for you.

And so it continues posted a new taskbar that I missed as seen here. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=11
He based his set on the Carneros taskbar (the version 3 I use) I have asked if he wouldn't mind me converting it over to CDMA for yet another option. All credit goes to him and you can see ALL his icon's are 100% custom by himself. Also talked with my bro at XDA 12aon who plans on releasing a new taskbar and will work together to make it both GSM/CDMA as well.

Okay, let's try this one. It's a new full install of the QVGA cab for TB 6 Elite. Please let me know how it does!
