I need to change the clock... best method?

I know the answer is probably all over this forum, but wow there is quite a bit to filter to find this one simple issue.
I had a theme request but didn't get any response on it so I'm making it myself, no big deal.

So perhaps someone can tell me what program I could use to change the clock. Actually I'll need to do more, but one step at a time.

I want to change the numbers and the background of the original touch diamond clock, or similar clock.
