Two Questions

Okay, I have 2 questions for all of you experts out there:

Is there a way to replace the system icons in the top tray (EV, Volume, email, antenna, start flag, etc) with out using battery status, WA or WAD? All I want to do is change the icons to something a bit more colorful, not change the entire look of my phone.
Is there a way to skin, or change the volume control pop-up to something more colorful with out using a massive 3rd party program?

I have a stock Sprint Touch. Thanks!
