iPhone vs Palm Pre

Before you all start flaming.... read this.
For my moms birthday, she has express the want to read e-mails on her phone. She is not very technical, so rule out winmo as a OS. In fact, lets say she is not technical at all. She wants it to work and no problem.
Now, ruling out AT&T's and Apples and Palm's and Sprints diffrent ploicys of locking down phones/monitoring your activities etc.... i want you to all focus on:
1) Ease of use - how easy for her to use the phone as a phone and as an e-mail client.
2) Price - ETF, New Hardware, Monthly Bills.

Which make more sense for a very down to earth mom.
iPhone OR Palm Pre.

DO NOT come in here and flame one of them, or come in and say "HTC HERO", this is a serious conversation.
please just come in and say "pre b/c the KB etc..." or "iphone b/c older platform - better build quality etc..." Thats all.
Thanks In Advance

Re: iPhone vs Palm Pre

I say Pre. Nice feel, big touchscreen, and hardware keyboard. I know you already know the plan requirements for either carrier for their respective device.

Re: iPhone vs Palm Pre

I say iphone (surprisingly)
now granted I got bored with it in under an hour and gave it to my mom she didnt want it, but it has a big screen and it is so simple, its stupid simple...
plus a 2g iphone unlocked is less expensive than a pre outright...unless its a blacklisted esn

Re: iPhone vs Palm Pre

I'd go for the pre, smaller, compact yet still a good screen. plus in my experience of selling phones non-technical parents don't usually do too well with a complete touch screen phone, she'll probably appreciate the hardware keyboard

Re: iPhone vs Palm Pre

Palm Pre for sure if for no other reason that your mom can use either the virtual kb or slide open the phone and use the hard kb. Also, deleting emails are super easy (left or right swipe gesture). The Pre has very elegant notification systems that are easy to manage and as you know the whole system is pretty straightforward and pretty intuitive.

late,
Coz

Re: iPhone vs Palm Pre

From a pricing point the Pre is a no-brainer. It has a pretty good interface too, great for the Novice user.

However, the iPhone is not a terrible choice either (except for those exploding ones in Europe!)

Just out of curiosity, why would the Hero not be part of a serious conversation (not stating the obvious that it isn't out yet, and no one on this forum can give a formed opinion from experience (well maybe the rare one or two of us)).
