XV6900 replacement (VZW)

My XV6900 died on me last week and I got Verizon's version of the Touch Diamond as a replacement (my early renewal hit so I got it for $50). After playing with it for a few days now I like the phone, but don't like the lousy battery life and the fact I can't put any custom ROMs on it. So I've been looking at the Touch Pro since I'm well within my 30 day "trial period". It seems there's a larger community for that device than the Diamond, plus the GPS is unlocked now. Basically I'm looking for some advice, should I stick with the Diamond or swap it for the Touch Pro?

Yes, I know there might be some new devices hitting VZW soon but frankly, they're outside my budget range. So I'm stuck looking at what's currently available.

Thanks!

You really are a sticky situation

In a month or two, the TP2 is coming out, the TP is down to 99.99 because of this.

If you can afford it, grab the TP2 while you still can, otherwise wait for whitestone (Diamond2) which should have more battery life

In the end, I love the keyboards.

Thanks for the advice. I used to have an XV6700 (Apache) which I loved. Are there any fundamental differences between the Diamond and the Pro other than the keyboard? How is memory and battery life?

Re: XV6900 replacement (VZW)

Having had the Sprint Touch Pro from Nov to July and THEN switching to the Diamond, I have been very happy.

I get much better battery life it seems. Barely charge every 24 hours. The Diamond has less Storage memory, but has a 4gb internal HD for storing stuff which you can also install many apps that don't require being on the main device.

It's nice not having the extra bulk from the TP in my pocket. Took a bit to get proficient with screen typing, but after a week I was cranking out messages w/o issue. I will be going to the TP2, because I can, and because the screen is SWEET.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Verizon screwed their TP up by cutting Storage memory. So really, between their Diamond and Pro the keyboard is about the ONLY difference, along with an internal 4gb HD on the Diamond and an SD slot on the TP.

You said it. Besides the keyboard and a slightly less lasting battery for the TP (But mods and other changes can fix that). that about does it.

Frankly that's what is making me wonder about swapping the Diamond for the Pro. I know there are ROMs out there which improve the battery life of the Pro and also (I think) improve the memory management. Both of those are significant problems with my Diamond at the moment.
