Seems like they are air holes to allow it to breath.

Same here. Watch it be the best one like the TP was but this time it will have the ugly back cover and others will have the cool one.

Looks like the holes may be for the speakerphone? In any case...I don't think the battery cover is that bad...

yea, it could be for speaker/ noise reduction for the mic, but that would be too smart. ;)
anyway, what is that little thing where the flash should be? is that the spkr? or a spkr button?
