Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

I work for sprint and I have played with the Palm Pre... I wouldn't replace it for the touch pro! Don't get me wrong, its a pretty cool phone but the TP in my opinion is better. If anyone has any questions about it I will be more than happy to answer them.

Can you give us a comparison of the two....I have had to TP since it came out. I tried several roms 6.1 & 6.5 but WinMo is too buggy and unpredictable. Currently I am using SPB mobile shell 3 but even that has it share of issues. I realy like all the options WinMo offers, but slow responces, programs stalling, screen sensitivity/responsiveness, etc... has me looking for other options.

Don't get me wrong I like the phone and its fine for now, but in the realm of technology.....there is always something "better" comming out and we always want whats "better"

Some specific questions I have are:
1) How is the keyboard? (most likely the TP's is better but is the Pre's managable)
2) Screen responsiveness/sensitivity
3) Is the OS as fluid as it appears on the YouTube videos?
4) How is the Browser?
5) Pros of TP and Pros of Pre

Thanks

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

i thought about switching over to the palm pre but being that u have to change your plan from free n clear... not worth it ....

palm pre .. there is no customization... at all for now

TP running WM6.1 mighty's latest release with no bugs... WM6.5 is buggy and TF3D2 is also buggy.. if u want bug free stay away from WM6.5 and tf3d2...

soon sprint will be releasing an official WM6.5,,, then the chefs can work off that to make it more stable then the 6.5 ones floating around now...

TP2 looks real nice... but will still be running off the WM6.1 platform out of the box

Switching plans is not an issue for me.. I am on the Simply Everything plan so I should be fine in that aspect.

The pre does look nice but I am not too sure about the whole "card" layout they have... Seems like I would have to do a lot of scrolling back an forth to get to apps which were open. At lease with SPB mobile I have a "Desktop" style layout where I can make links to apps and other features I use on a regular basis. The Pre's os seems stable and personnaly I never had an issue with their OS stability so I am guessing that Web OS will be very stable. Also I personally would like to have an on screen keyboard from time to time (not having to slide physical keyboard out whenever I am browsing web, txting, etc...)

The TP 2 also seems nice and migh be the phone I end up getting..... Depending on if the Pre fallls short of my expectations. My issues with the TP2 are, that ther is no flash on the back and its still winmo.

Guess this is something I will have to physically test out myself to get the best answer of pros and cons of one phone over the other.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

Its a brand new OS how can you guys say its stable? I highly doubt its going to be stable for a few months maybe a lot longer. These first phones are probably going to be buggy as well. I like the pre but I think the big issue is the keypad, those buttons are hard and cramped. Also the lack of apps isnt that appealing. What is appeal.. a workable pandora, a quick phone great notifications. Proximity and all that fancy stuff. Honestly though I dont see the phone being much if at all better then the TP or TP2. If the TP2 was coming out around the same time I wouldnt even be considering the Pre. However I am going to play with a pre and possibly snatch it up.

I think the Pre is going to turn out to be a big disapointment. Everyone is going to compair it to the Iphone and I think its going to be a let down... Not because it isnt better, I am sure its better. But because people that dont know what the **** they are talking about are going to get a pre thinking because its better then its the same thing but better. Its not going to be the same phone and its not going to look like the Iphone so idiot people are going to be really dissapointed.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

I reallly do not think app support will be an issue with Palm...Specially since it will have an emulator which supposedly "runs smooth" and allows you to run some of the Previous Palm apps. Also they will have an app store and more than likely offer severl apps (Palm and Apple have die hard fans and supporters so this may help propell the app store to stock up sooner than later)

I am only askingabout the phone because on a previous post a Sprint employee had a chance to demo it out. Since they have experience with the TP and had an option to test the Pre they would be able to give us an idea of what to expect. However, I am sure it will be more stable than WinMo..... I've had Palms and WinMo devices...The fact is WinMo freezes and is very sluggish (every version up to the desired 6.5 update and more then likely for all whom are hoping the WM7 is the answer, I bet it will be full of bugs as well.) That should not stop us from buying a phone based on the potential bug, they will get ironed out either by the chefs on sites like this. On the Treo my apps loaded 2x faster and never crashed nore froze up the phone. I am not saying that the Pre will be free of bugs....nothig is ever free of bugs. All I am trying to see is will this phone be suitable for my taste... hence I will be the only one to determine that....

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

I'll be picking it up on the 6th. I just would like to try something different. With SPB Mobile, I finally got my touch pro exactly how I like it! I haven't even flashed in like a month which for me is amazing. I am hoping with the Pre, it will be more smooth than WM. Hopefully all of the quality assurance that has gone into this phone will make it a proven device.

Re: Replacing HTC touch pro with Palm Pre

My main impetus for switching would be my dissatisfaction with HTC. (Yeah, I keep buying 'em. Heh.) I'm just fed up with the overheating Touch Pro and things like that.

Unfortunately, I think it would require a plan switch for me (I'm on a legacy plan, the Free & Clear Family 2000, paying $100/month (plus taxes, etc.) for three unlimited data/text/night&weekend lines with 2000 shared minutes. Pretty sure that can't be beat by anything they have to offer.) so I'm probably stuck with HTC for now! But we'll see. Nothing I've seen on the TP2 would make me want to upgrade from my TP, but maybe that's just me.
