im defenetly getting sick of winmo with its mediocre updates and outdated OS (best thing i have ever done to my Vogue is run Android full time) so its either Pre or if a new Android device is revealed ill try it out for my next handset, ill check back in when WM7 drops if its not horrible

Palm Pre: How many are considering a switch?

I have my eye on the Palm Pre that will be coming out in the near future. It seems to have a very snappy/responsive software interface and the phone design seems pretty solid (a bit too rounded for my taste, but oh well).

I owned an HTC Mogul from mid 2007 till a couple months ago and then upgraded to the HTC Touch Pro in February this year. I feel that the HTC/Windows Mobile mix is a sputtering collaberation in need of a reboot.

I am thoroughly unimpressed with the clunky nature of Windows Mobile OS (take your pick of any version) and the frustration I have to deal with on a regular basis. I've tried so many roms: bare-bones, feature rich, YOU NAME IT... nothing seems to run without hiccups, glitches, freeze-ups, weird behavior, screen artifacting, etc. Not the mention the times you actually venture to show-off your phone to someone and it predictably malfunctions and you are there "hold on, hold on.. this is cool.. I just need to reset my phone and you'll see this cool thing after 2 minutes... seriously!"

I still love my phone... and I'll stick with it if the Palm Pre turns out to be a dud (it already gets a hit for having half the screen resolution as my TP). But I'm hoping the Palm Pre is enough of a success to light a fire under HTC to move away from the iPhone clones and consider different OS's than Windows Mobile.

What is your take on the Palm Pre? Are you considering the switch?

i agree completely about htc and windows mobile, and qualcomm. I would consider switching to the pre if they let me keep my sero plan, if not then no way, ever.

Yeah. I'm on sero 500 here so I would definitely have issues if I couldn't get the Palm Pre added to that plan.

Plus I need to see some indepth reviews of the Palm Pre before I can make a decision. Battery life, ease of use, programs available, etc...

I am not really considering the pre, no SD card, unsure of the 3rd party support. If they make a WebOS phone with all the normal phone features....maybe. But for now, my only focus is on the Diamond 2.

Re: Palm Pre: How many are considering a switch?

i prolly will for the same reasons you have mentioned. and the fact that you dont have to spend all that time and effort to cover up your OS (thats sad)

i want a OS that just works great overall. great browser, contacts manager, messaging, all the basic features without having to look for third party software just so it can decentlly do its main tasks.

i know that everyone here (including me) loves WinMo but its the sad truth, and anyone thats doesnt agree must compare all --->OS's only<--- (no add-ons or anything, its the OS thats the issue) only and see for themselves. Take a bare bones 6.1/6.5 Rom and compare to a Stock iPhone or a stock Pre to see that its way behind. I really hope M$ dont screw up WM7

I've been waiting for the Pre for a while now. I'm also on the Sero 500. Sprint announced last week that they will require an Everything Data plan ala Instinct on the Pre, so I am now the proud owner if a Touch Pro. I would have waited for the Pre, but I'm now willing to add an extra $40 a month to my plan.

For me its going to come down to the keyboard and the timeframe/release of the touch pro 2. I've had a lot of Palms, the most recent was an 800w; it had a great keyboard, the Centro keyboard sucked (my wife had one). I hear the pre keyboard is a little tight like the Centro; kind of inbetween the Centro and the Treo Pro. We'll see...
