Re: Pro vs, Pro2

I'll try my best not to buy this, and I'll try not to break my phone so that Alltel doesn't ship me this thing (if they get it). And here's why: like most of the new phones on the market, it doesn't have an arrow keypad.

Why is everyone abandoning the keypad without going to multitouch? In my opinion, if a phone is gonna have no keypad and no multitouch, then it can't play much outside of puzzle games, and being a gamer, I don't see myself liking this.

Now, if this thing does have multitouch, then I'll consider it. But if no multitouch, then no sale for me.

I hope the rest of you guys like it.

Re: Pro vs, Pro2

so is htc in the touch flo business now or what, that's pretty much all they showed off.
so a bigger screen and and still only 3 columns on tf3d... pass.
I do like the keyboard a bit, and sounds like the speakerphone is finally "business class".
i'll wait for TEP.

Re: Pro vs, Pro2

most likely the pro2 will go thew some changes (like most HTC phones) by the time it reaches the U.S... If it reaches the U.S. that is. As it is right now.... if I had the choice I would most likely upgrade... and likely sell my touch pro to do so...

as far as hardware I don't think its better than the pro ether (as others have stated)... I'll miss the flash, video out, and dpad (even tho the pro's is useless), but I'm feelin the bigger/tilting screen and bigger keyboard.

But with that said I'm most excited about WM 6.5 than anything else... and because (i know, I'm weird) I prefer to stick with official roms... the number 1 reason I would upgrade is for a official 6.5 rom....

I'v used custom roms on the 6700, and the 6800 and it was a good experience for the most part, i was able to get wm 6.1 on the 6700, and rev a and gps 6.1 on the 6800 b4 it was out officially... but I've never put a custom rom on the TP ... BUT.. a STABLE 6.5 custom rom might be enough to push me over the edge...

and ofcourse I am very excited about a WM 6.5 OS running on tegra's hardware. Hopefully it will come to sprint because I do not want to switch carriers.

I'm excited about the Pre too, but I'm not straying from WM anytime soon (but ill definitely be first in line to demo it if I ever see one in person)

way to go HTC...
Toshiba had a phone out a few years ago with Sprint that had a great sceen on it. Way ahead of its time when you looke at it. I had tons of ringers and pictures on that phone too.

well it has a keyboard with arrow keys... but I feel you. If a game is non-touch screen capable and only work in portrait u r SOL.

Re: Pro vs, Pro2

@ OXY, HTC is most likely going to stay away from multitouch as Apple is trying to copyright it, and thus the Palm Pre is facing some heat along those lines, so i would doubt the multitouch tthing buddy....you can thank Apple for that.

Re: Pro vs, Pro2

Anyone think its both odd and a little inspiring to see Palm go against something they knew Apple would $hit bricks over.

No one really stood up to Apple directly until little ol' Palm came back

So far, since hearing its announcement at 5am today, and i was impressed by the durable design on the Diamond2 but was sorely let down on the Touch Pro2.

Apart from carrying a name over from a previous design, taking away key features (Camera Flash and TV-Out) alienating their support base and re-classifying the device as a stricter business phone. They could have named it the HTC Tilt Pro, you know? reserved the actual Touch Pro 2 name to a worthy successor.

Now if they, used the CDMA market to fund their upcoming projects (i.e TouchPro2/Diamond2) Could of at least used the funds to invest in the new CPU architecture, and reward their hardcore base with a capable device. Instead they go to the same sub par processors.

it is my only wish, that in some logical way, HTC has already contemplated about the same processor vs screen size increase = more to process. My wish is that they finally worked out some licensing arrangement to provide full 2D and 3D acceleration.. but judging by the videos, especially the one with the Diamond2 running WinMo6.5... the honey comb UI looked as slow to slide down and up as my custom WinMO6.5 ROM for the Pro(Raph) which leads me to believe they went the same dusty road NOT to include them.

If the TP2 had come out before the Touch Pro, i'd actually look forward to upgrading to the Touch Pro for the same specifications, size, weight, and added functionality of flash and tv out. plus soon we will have a rock solid winMo6.5 VGA release with Custom Manila from the Touch Pro2.

Re: Pro vs, Pro2

no flash and simmilar hardware specs? wtf htc? if they insist staying with qualcom atleast consider the 1Ghz snapdragon, otherwise I would expect this thing to be marginally slower than the current gen TP if they dont optimize drivers.

While I hope to be wrong, but i feel the TP2 would be like upgrading from the apache to mogul (looks nice, great ideas, but slower)

That said, I will probably wait until they release the TP2 successor.
