My company is buying me ANY phone I want--as long as it works in the U.S.
I am looking for a great workhorse PDA phone. I liked the Sprint Touch Pro, but it has way too many issues for me, as of now.
I looked at the Omnia, and it was promising, especially with the feedback on the on-screen keyboard. The problem with it, was the touchscreen had issues around the edges, like where the A key is on the screen, in portrait mode, and it kept pushing the S instead. I tried 3 phones, and recalibrated them as well. It's just the design--same as the Diamond and Pro. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? This is what I am looking for: 1. Full Exchange support w/ certificates. 2. Great touchscreen. 3. Great autofocus camera that doesn't require babying or a tripod. 4. Fast. I felt like I spent more time waiting on Pro than actually using it. 5. The ability to load custom/3rd-party programs. 6. Unlocked GPS 7. Windows Mobile would be nice, but not a necessity. I have grown quite fond of it, and know so many tricks, and love the customization. Any thoughts? What phone would you guys pick? Is there one coming out in the next few months that you would really want? The Xperia X1 has really caught my eye... http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/ I would love some advice Thanks! -Steve |

Yeah, the keyboard IS great, but the screen is VERY insensitive around the edges, causing it to be hard to use the on-screen SIP, and scrollbars, and hitting okay, etc... There are horrible issues with overheating as well--and I don't want to get into that discussion.
I have owned 6 of them now, and after work today, I am returning my last Touch Pro. I have wasted way too much time trying to make this phone work for me. I would be willing to accept a great on-screen keyboard, or a slightly worse physical keyboard, if it meant I would get a fast, reliable phone. |

I've read of some of the issues people have with the Touch Pro's and don't understand.
I have a few customizations like the flip clock, flash light, octrotalk. I'm connected and emailing from our exchange server through out the day, phone calls and etc, and I really don't notice any issues. The camera is great and I love that it has a flash on it. Have you considered anything like a Treo 800w?

The problems that people are having are mostly hardware defects. Have you tried a long phone call, like 1+ hours? You battery will drain, even while plugged into a charger. That's my biggest gripe. Second is the screen border issue, and third is the overall build quality. Quote:
Unfortunately, I find myself writing way too many emails to use the sluggish onscreen stuff anymore. I need something with a keyboard. If the Xperia X1 isn't all it's cracked up to be, I will probably end up staying with Sprint, and getting a Pro again later on, when these issues are taken care of. |
