Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?

well i just came from owning an iPhone since almost the beggining, and i got to say, its an amazing phone, but compared to a phone like a Touch Pro, it doesn't last. It has a great touch screen, and can end up being a great device, but out of the box, you have no customization what so ever, and to get an app you usually have to start shelling out cash, that is unless you jailbreak it to allow some of the functions that come out of the box with a phone like the Touch Pro. As for me, i jailbreaked since my day one with the phone and never lived without it. That is because, the only way to get anything remotely decent on the phone was by the jailbreak. And even after Apple released the AppStore, you can get almsot any app, and an even better version of it for free through the jailbreak. But even though you jailbreak it, after a while you'll start to notice that the phone starts to slow down, freeze up, and in a rare occasion completely crash. Most of the time, to bring the phone back to full speed, you restore it, this takes time no matter what, and if your like me, it somewhat longer since i unlock it (im on tmobile for iphone since theres no 3g in my area so att is pointless), have to spend time to do apps, custimize, etc.

Now as for a phone such as the Touch Pro, i must say it has a steeper learning curve. Don't be msitaken, im also a so called "iphone poweruser" since i've done just about everything with it including the full hardware unlock. But the Touch Pro, mostly WinMobil, seems to have a higher learning curve and more advanced for the options that you can do. im currently on my 3rd day with the Pro so im still learning, and personally i like the phone, but now and then i still miss using my iPhone because of just how visually beautiful the OS was. But i like having the extra feeling of safety on my Pro though, since i've had times before when my iPhone would just "die" while im outside, but now with the Touch Pro, i can just hard reset on the go and ill at least be able to use the phone. I also like having the option of just copying my files over like videos and just playing them without the hassle of converting and such.

So IMO, the Touch Pro is better if you like to have more freedom, as for the iPhone, even if you do jailbreak it, always expect to run into some problems down the road.

WM devices are so open most people get all the apps that they install for free(warez). If that thing keeps continues, The WM app business will die and eventually the OS itself which is already starting.

No warez on iPhone? haha thats a funny one. Back when the AppStore was released and long before, i was very active in the iPhone community, and let me assure you, on Day One of the AppStores release, it was cracked. Even to this day, Apps are being cracked, and nothing has been done to stop it. And frankly, its much easier in general than anything with WinMobile. For the iPhone, all you need to do is run a debugger and a couple other quick programs on the device with the App, and viola, you have a DRM Free App, which all you need to do is copy over and it's ready to use.

It can be a touchpad for PC's. It is customizable in a different level. WM customizes by immitating other devices. Iphone owners does not do that coz they think it's a downgrade for the Iphone. Tethering functions is coming soon. Pls seach Youtube for videos of their games tht will amaze you. Start searching with this keywords. iphone starwars then go to related videos for more.

Yes the iPhone can do 1080p, but in the real world, thats really doesnt help the device that much right now. The only possible storage configurations are 8gb and 16gb, and after some compresion and conversion, you *might* be able to fit one 1080p movie on the 8gb by taking up all the storage, so in the OPs case, i think this is an insignificant point.

Did U see me put "iphone has no warez" U want me to give U a link of 1.4 gigs of iphone apps? the purpose of the post is to explain that being as free as wm devices has it's disadvantages too. On the iphone side, Atleast it's being minimized by the app store.

It was not meant as a demand, it was intended as a suggestion as to how you might better help. Since you have a unique viewpoint, I felt you had a lot more to add aside from just the iPhone side. But you're right, plenty of others came forward with their own posts, so the need was satisfied.

I bought an iphone and then ended up returning it and getting the TP. I really like the iphone and if they enhance the camera, increase storage to 32gb and add real navigation come January I'll be sold again.

I just can't quite justify the extra monthly charges when I can tether my Touch Pro, use Slingbox and Copilot Navigation for about half the price.

I'll pass on the TP for now. I'm waiting for similar device like the Touch HD. then I'll have this in my hands. LOL Isn't it beautiful? I'm inlove with these 2. I'll have 3some with them. LMAO

I know the plans are more expensive, can't customize as much, and blah blah blah. I'm wondering who has one or came from one has to say about the phone. I don't want to hear from people who have just played around with one or knows someone with one. I'm wondering what regrets I would have if I switched to the iPhone.

2 possible deal breakers for me would be Slingbox and Pushmail. I've seen a youtube video of the iphone slinging, but is this 'hack' readily available like custom ROMS are for the touch pros? And I'm guessing push mail is probably available but just wanted someone to confirm it.

What other regrets would I have?

I do have both, and I love em both.

I am able to watch tv on Iphone 3g via ORB, but can't change the channel as of right now. I did order a remote that should work so we'll see about that.

As far as slingbox on Touch PRO vs ORB on Iphone, slingbox quality is better in my case because; I have Slingbox PRO, which is connected via HD cable to my cable box while Wintv 1950 only offers composite/s-video connection.

I do like the fact that Iphone does offer bigger screen, and quality is quite impressive as long as I don't compare screen vs screen.

I do love em both.
