Re: Curve user disappointed with the TP so far..
This is where I agree with you, I too would like to know more about how it stacks up against the G1. I'm just not and iphone kind of guy but hey whatever floats a persons boat. I just think until the smoke clears on the newness( is that a word lol) of the pro it's gonna be open season for those new to the pro for whatever reason to bash it. I have no problem with it but seriously every post is bash only not a comparison just the flaws of one device and the strong points of the other. That's why I compared it to the Instinct, there's gotta be something that works on it right but you could never tell by reading the forums sort of like the pro these days. Ok rant over nothing to see here

That being said the thing that attracts those folks to these phones is also the biggest turn off, and thats WinMo. While extremely customizable, it is not a fast and responsive OS....plain and simple. If you want that you probably need to look elsewhere. As far as the websurfing goes.... I see that less as a fault of the phone and more a fault of the lack of a developed browser for powerful devices for the WinMo platform. Microsoft rests on their laurels and hasnt put any real effort into developing the PIE platform, and the only other real option, Opera, still lacks the features you would want from Safari mobile.

Re: Curve user disappointed with the TP so far..
The curve battery life would be my biggest comparison if I were to complain. My friend's battery on the curve is ridiculous. He can go 2 days without recharging. Hell, I can't even make it a full day with the Mogul or Touch pro.
However, I'm loving the browser with Opera. I previously thought that Opera was crap. That was true on a weak phone like the Mogul. The TP handles Opera brilliantly, especially with the zoom wheel. On the other hand, scrolling with Opera mini is not smooth if you use your fingers. It is pretty choppy. I just use the D pad because it is much faster that way. |

everything is not for everybody. imo if your old black berry was that much better, return the touch pro, problem solved.

Re: Curve user disappointed with the TP so far..
I had the instinct (horrible phone) for 2 weeks, traded for the BB curve. I had the BB curve for less than 24 hours and traded back to the instinct till the diamond arrived. My diamond wouldn't charge and was upgraded to the TP at no charge. I love the TP. Anywho, I found the BB curve to be nowhere efficient in alot of area's against the TP. My dad just upgraded to the curve and I had the task of implementing custom ringtones to his contacts (as he is clueless) in cell phones. There are, 12, yes count them, 12 steps to add a custom ringtone to a contact and scrolling with that stupid track ball made it worse. Yeah, you can have all icons placed on the home screen for ease of use but so help you god if you click on the wrong icon. I found the BB to NOT be intuitive at all in any way. You have to take many, many steps to edit anything to your liking. I found the audio quality to be about the same as the TP. My point is, is that both phones have a learning curve but an average joe can use a TP without a degree in rocket science. PLus, the TP can be customized in just about every aspect of the phone from web browsers to different colors of the dial pad and everything inbetween. Because of the BB curve my dad and his wife are switching from AT&T to sprint just to get the TP for ease of use and its luster. I also got to play with the G1 just to see what the hype is all about. While it's OS seems ok, the phone lacks. Period. The phone is fugly and looks like a brick, the screen looks predated circa 1999 just bigger, and its overall aesthetics looks as if it were made by fisher price. Just my two cents!

Re: Curve user disappointed with the TP so far..
I can't knock G1's operation, as I have never even held one, but it is with no doubt the ugliest device out there! What were they thinking. Also, with any device I think it definately comes down to what you are willing to put into it, you don't have to be an expert to add some really cool apps and fix some of the annoying everday isssues, which ALL of them have. I have have the HTC touch and love it, my buddy has the same phone and hates it, but when I let him mess around with mine, he cant believe it is even the same phone. I have spent a small amount of time adding apps I like, and making small tweaks, this is the only difference. Oh, and by the way, I am a complete ameature at it, and usually dont attempt some of the more advanced registry tweaks or experimental stuff, because I know those of you who do, usually do the dirty work of getting the bugs out and streamlining it, then make a cab for me! LOL! Thanks to all who put in the work.

Re: Curve user disappointed with the TP so far..
Well i played with the G1 and have no problems with its looks. I personally think it is a beautiful phone (after all it's in the eyes of the beholder) plus the webkit browser BEATS Opera Mobile hands down.
Anyone who's spent a considerable amount of time will admit that the G1 browser is better than Opera, and i have no shame in admitting it even though i have a T.Pro. Responsive, fast and well laid out. Opera is a breath of air compared to P.I.E but i wouldn't mind a more responsive and less laggy version. |
