There were people doing that same thing, just pulling the camera off the board or breaking the glass but now that isnt allowed. Even if the camera is useless, if it was once a camera equipped phone it is still not allowed. Anyone know if the BlackBerry will work with the SERO plan? It says I need the Everything plan, but aside from the minutes, I have the unlimited internet, text, data with the SERO. |

DO you have Wi-Fi Access at work? Get an old PDA Phone (or just PDA) without a camera and install Skype and a Wi-Fi card as needed...
or You could just replace the case completely covering the camera permanently... A 3D printer would be perfect for this... (They really do exist, just expensive...) |

I'm curious as to where they work.
Most types of places that don't allow cameras, don't allow any type of phone or even PDAs. But the problem is most phones now-a-days have cameras on them. |

Re: Need a new smart/PDA phone, advice please....
Yeam all the iPhones have cameras and I definately dont want to switch to AT&T.
As far as where I work, I work on Pearl Harbor. They allow cell phones but due to security reasons they dont allow camera phones anymore. I got a BlackBerry 8830 to use and I have to admit that I actually miss Windows Mobile. This thing is the biggest POS ive had so far. Not to mention there idea of a trackball nipple thing is killing me. I want a touchscreen. Im thinking ill just go with a Treo and modify the case so it covers the camera. Then ill just clear any software it has for the camera use and hopefully ill be good. |

Re: Need a new smart/PDA phone, advice please....
Well I was on the phone with Sprint yesterday expressing my dis-satisfaction with my whole BlackBerry experience. I mentioned that I was told by a Sprint employee that unlimited data would work with the BB but the BB data plan was actually required so I asked if it would be possible to get the 800w for the new activation price of $249 vs. the $599 retail price. All I had working for me was my $75 credit for my 1 year of service so my price would have been $525. I told the lady I had no problem agreeing to another 2 year contract if she could help me out. So in the end I got a new 800w for $249 without having to deal with any rebates.
I know that I need a phone without a camera for work so I have some plans to disguise it. I will remove the camera icons from the Programs menu and anything else related to "camera" and on the back I will take the case apart and plastic weld in some fine black mesh to go over the camera/speakerphone area. This way, it will just appear to be a speakerphone vent and not look like I blatantly tried to hide a camera. Should work nicely. |
