Re: Touch or Mogul, undecisive!
Doh, cut & paste of a long post. grr don't you hate that.
Anyways, here goes again. I am stuck on the fence with this as well. I initially liked the 6800 and would have jumped at the opportunity to "upgrade" from my 6700 to one, as it felt as the natural progression. But in reading many threads on the Mogul and problems people claim to have with them, it has put me in doubt. In trying to look thru the threads on the subject of "mogul vs touch", I see many people claiming there are many other threads on the same subject, reading those of threads, also claims many other threads on the same subject, but ending up without any real useful information or just plain making people even more confused. Making it hard for one like me have to read thru and sift out the whining, bragging, touting for the one that person might be the owner of at the time or post about there's already another thread on this posted by the same person on every thread about the subject.. Now to give you a little background on where I come from to perhaps help me along on making a choice. True to each his own, but that's why we have reviews on things, so others can judge things using others' experiences. One personally can not base their choice on thier own exprience or needs, without having both, each item/device to compare for enough time spent with each device. I love gadgets, the geekiness / nerdiness of things, I enjoy hacking, editing, customizing, troubleshooting, upgrading, updating, being on the cutting edge. But at the end of the day having a working device, not just more head aches with something thats more trouble than its worth. I'd rather customize rather and troubleshoot any day.. That said I am a little late on the 6800 as an upgrade to the 6700 boat. But am I too late? Is the 6800 as an upgrade a thing of the pass, now being surpassed by other devices, such as the 6900 the next best thing? So you can say I am an enthusist at heart. I enjoyed the features of 6700 alot. Wifi once in a while to show to friends when and if it stayed connected. Or to actually look something up on the net. But this is comming from a carrier with only 1x net access (at best) it felt more like dialup, but atleast I had the option. Now on a EVDO carrier, net browsing is nice. I didn't mind using the popup keyboard on the 6700, but once in a while it would cover the place I was typing into, so I switch the hardware keyboard or perhaps sometimes when I had to type something a bit longer, like this post I would as well. ATM I have actually replaced my 6700 with a Treo 700wx and I am quite happy with it. I don't miss the wifi, since it's on an EVDO carrier. I liked the hardware buttons on the 6700, but didn't use them that much, and don't use them on my treo at all except for occasional volume & the mute switch. I find I use the front dial / end and dpad alot. I like using the PDA/phone alot and often. I enjoy taking random pictures. I use it as my computer away from home often. So that being said, what's your opinion or suggestions? Or perhaps any questions I have not answered that might help you help me make a choice? Thanks, -CC |

Re: Touch or Mogul, undecisive!
Whats the ram difference?
Im really wanting to trade my 6800 for one... thinkin about it at least. The wifi is nice but its really a suger pill because Evdo is as quick as the lil phone can process info anyways, lol. |

Wifi is most definitely not a "sugar pill" because there is not much cooler than using WMWiFiRouter to access those great EVDO speeds with your laptop or your friends' laptops. I don't use WiFi for browsing on the Mogul but I most certainly use it to provide a hotspot for my laptop. Add in the additions of GPS and Rev. A on the new ROM and the Mogul is really the more functional of the two. 64mb more RAM isn't enough for me to give up my QWERTY, GPS, Rev. A, WMWiFi, etc. |
Re: Touch or Mogul, undecisive!
I thought both phones tether to computers?
nvm, I think im confusing myself, lol |

Re: Touch or Mogul, undecisive!
I read a lot of good things here both about Mogul and Touch..
The truth has been told.. Everyone will not like both.. At the end of the day it comes down to the user. I have friends with the Mogul, nobody with the touch, so i wanted to be different and after a month reading reviews, talking with users, and thinking for myself. I wanted the latest best so it was either Mogul or Touch since I have Sprint. I found myself getting a Touch for $260 brand new shipped so it was definitely an opener for me so I went with it, right away started a headstart reading on forums and love it.. They're both good but both are meant for 2 different users. I'm a Happy user since March 19, love the speed and memory. |

I had purchased the Touch in November of last year and have been trying for MONTHS to return it and swap it out. I ended up changing it out for the mogul which I love. The HTC Touch has a software glitch which does not allow the phone to notify you of incoming calls, texts, emails, etc... once it goes into sleep mode. Of course they don't know if and when an update will be released so it's a brick. ALSO, the battery ont he HTC Touch does not hold a charge, because the phone is so small and runs so many programs. It was so bad that like, I would take it off the charger at 8 AM and not be on it ALLLL DAY at all while at work and at 4:30 the phone would be powering off because the battery had drained. I know two other people with the TOuch that are having hte same problem. ALSO, you will get sick of not having a keyboard, because the keyboard/input options they have on the Touch such and unless you have fingers the size of a newborn baby it's crap!! Stick with the Mogul dude.... you'll be glad u did |

The mogul on the other hand? Try to open skyfire while sms chat and outlook are open? soft reset. Try to open my camera when i really need to take a quick pic? out of memory. Dont get me wrong, ive said this time and time again, the mogul is an excellent very capable phone, but is flawed big time by memory issues. My touch has the usual winmo hang ups, but out performed my mogul with everything short of wifi, rev.a, gps. What did i gain? a phone that runs windows mobile the way it should be ran. Something much more sleek. SOmething much better looking and easier to carry around. Something with a louder speaker. Oh yeah, i love having wisbar, skyfire, sms chat, htc audio manager running in the background, OZ IM in the backround, and still having 40 megs of ram left... BTW, dont listen to that kid, its all about the user. Most of us who have went from mogul to touch agree that touchpal is even faster than the hard keyboard. of course i would still prefer to have the hard KB, but touchpal is an excellent alternative. Sure i miss the hard buttons, and GPS and wifi, but to be honest, i dont miss the MOGUL ONE BIT!! This has been pounded 727,651 times, but its all up to the user. Some of us prefer the Touch, some prefer the Mogul, both have their respective advantages and disadvantages, but its all about WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF A DEVICE! |
