Re: Why is TP2 better than iphone
Well here it is, I had the iPhone 3G for 6 months the day it came out and than switched to the TP1 and now I have the TP2 from Sprint. I’m not anyone’s fanboy.
The iPhone is awesome, there is nothing like it. Comparing the iPhone to the TP1, the iPhone BLOWS it out of the water. The TP1 just sucked period. Now comparing the iPhone to the TP2, the iPhone is a little better because its more refined and functional right out of the box. Now after a few tweaks and trying different ROMS, the TP2 is ALMOST as good as the iPhone but the iPhone is still better but not by much. The problem with the WM phones is that it requires too much tweaking and dealing with all sorts of cabs to make it work right. The iPhone just works right out of the box. For the common average person who isn’t a computer nerd, the iPhone works well. For the nerds, they probably like the WM devices more because they can mess with it. Also, the iPhone just has more eye candy and “sex appeal” in comparison to WM and its considered the “cool” phone. Now the main reasons I quit the iPhone is because I couldn’t get a signal and had a lot of missed calls because of ATT and also I don’t think any phone is worth paying $110 a month for a lousy 450 minutes. I’m no sucker. Now getting Sprint Sero 500 for $30 bucks combined with TP2 to me blows out any iPhone with ATT service. I can use my phone for over 3 months for less than the cost of 1 month with ATT. A whole year of service for Sprint is $360 while the iPhone is $1320, for the price difference, I can buy a 50” LCD TV on sale or 2 laptop computers in just 1 year alone! And the sad part is, I have a good job, drive a luxury car that cost over 50k, live in wealthy area and wear all name brand clothes and I still can’t justify spending that much money on the iPhone!

Re: Why is TP2 better than iphone
but you see, youve just hit the nail on the head. For people who are more concerned with sex appeal and working right out of the box (we are defining "working" as doing what it does, whether you like it or not. Remember, it didnt even do mms until a few months ago) then the iphone is the way to go. These are the same people who are better off with a mac because that sketchy porn site gets viruses on their pc. When you look at it this way, its not really fair to say the iphone is better. When it comes to functionality, the iphone cannot compete because it had very limited expandability and customization, whereas a WM device has nearly limitless potential. This has been beat like a dead horse and everytime the outcome is this: The iphone is for people who just want something that works, and arent picky about its function, looks sexy, and is the "cool" thing to have. WM is for the user that wants every ounce of power and potential out of his device, is not afraid to do what mods it takes to tap into that potential, and is not as concerned with the sex appeal and cool factor (but for the record, i think the tp2 is a very sexy device)
[edit] just to clarify, im not biased. I got my fiance an iphone for the very reasons mentioned above. its "cool" so she likes it, she doesnt have to do anything for it to work everytime, and while it doesnt have some of the features my phone does, shes happy with it because ultimate functionality is not a huge concern with her. I would have loved to get her a WM device, and I did, and it just wasnt for her, so shes got an iphone. that certainly doesnt make her phone, or my phone the better phone. two different classes of device.

Still, let me share my experience. The TP2 is is THE best sounding music device, I've heard. I have used it with my headphones, in my car, home audio(not the cheap ones) and my media room equipment(audiophile quality) TP2 sounds way better than the iPhone. TP2 has better frequency response, with very good lows and clear highs. I don't care how the next screen comes up when I browse for music (It may be a sliding effect(iPhone) or a quick screen change(TP2) ). The only advantage with iPhone is the sliding screen effect! for everything else there is TP2. |

Re: Why is TP2 better than iphone
I'm looking to upgrade to the tp2, what I was wondering is how is the touch sensitivity(sp). I played with my buddies iphone and the way the screens scroll and move are really smooth with the finger. How does the TP2 compare. I currently have a vogue, and it's definitely not as smooth as the iphone when it comes to this. Can anyone comment who has played with both phones. Thanks.

That being said, you can never get any TP2 to be quite as fluid & responsive as something like my 2nd gen ipod touch (I don't care what ROM you're running) This is not necessarily a good thing totally however. What I find is, my ipod screen is almost TOO sensitive at times... If I have been using the TP2 (running Juicy R3 at this point & Mighty before that) & then switch to my ipod & safari browser I find myself constantly clicking on links etc. that I didn't mean to when all I wanted to do was scroll a page. I love the way safari & that sensitive screen zooms (that part is awesome), but I am constantly having to hit the back button when I just accidentally clicked on a link or shortcut that I didn't mean to. ~John |
