What phone service do you have? Cause if you have sprint they have whats called family locator where you can track your phone to about a 10foot radius even when its in standby. Just doesn't work if the phone is turned off.

Re: Maintain GPS connection during standby, in order to locatre phone if necessary.
I am on Sprint. The Myphone is nice and it is actually what turned me on to the possibilities, however it only tracks location during syncronization (once per day). I was kind of hoping there was a fix so that I wouldn't be limited, as far as the application and manner of tracking goes. I thought maybe there was something in the registry to keep it on in standby, like there is to keep Wifi on. Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Maintain GPS connection during standby, in order to locatre phone if necessary.
For Win Mob geoterrestrial "gps today" will wake the handset up at user set intervals and send location. I believe GPSGate will do this as well and display it on a map through their website.
Both are way cheaper than family locator. Family locator will fall back from satellite GPS to tower triangulation ,which is important if the person is in buildings, but you can set gps today to do this as well, and the Treo Pro is unusual in that triangulation estimates can be called up by WM without going through a sprint server. Actual satellite GPS fixes are usually 3 to 10 meters, triangulation fixes are usually 45 to 600 meters. |
