How to change IM alerts and sounds

Im sure this is a registry thing. But the IM program that comes on this phone, how can i change the sound that it uses? Or whether it vibrates? And why doesnt the screen light up when i receive an IM?

Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications. There's a drop-down list of various events where you can select whether to play a sound, what sound, vibration options, whether a message should be displayed on the screen, etc.

ok maybe im just missin it. I know about that, but which one is for instant messaging?

There's one that says New Instant Message, which is for instant messages, and one that says New text message, which is for text messages.
