16gb micro sd card showing up at 8gb

the treo pro claimed to be compatible with 16gb microsd cards, so i bought one for my new treo pro (sprint, if that makes a diff) however, even though in my computer in the handy microsd usb reader it shows up as cpcacity 16gb, in my phone my phone will only recognize it as an 8gb capacity chip. interestingly, files i put on thru the usb reader have no issues being read by the phone, and i have been using the chip for a few weeks already without any issues, other than the fact that it thinks it's an 8gb chip. i would experiment by using my usb reader to fill it past 8gb of stuff and see what my phone does then, but i am too scared somthing bad might happen.

anyone have any idea what is happening here?

Did you format the card before using it?

no i used it straight out of the package, but it worked fine in the computer with the reader and show up as having a 16gb capacity. would that make a difference?

Try copying the content to someplace on your hard drive, then format the card FAT32 & copy everything back on. The phone should recognize it properly then. If not, can you still return it for a free replacement?
