Treo Pro on Verizon
Has anyone had a Pro on Verizon, or know if it's possible?
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
no, HardSPL isn't avaliable for it yet...unless you can buy an unlocked cdma version..
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I dont think that they sell unlocked CDMA phones and even if they did it would be up to verizon to activate it and i doubt that they would
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Anybody manage to pull this off? I've started the process of getting my "Alltel" Treo Pro's MEID added into the DMD. The rep will call me back next Friday with the status of that.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
i just bought an Alltell treo pro, and attempted to get it actived both at the store, and over the phone with a rep. The store said no way, the guy on the phone said he's never heard over alltel phones being activated on verizon, but he would try anyway. upon entering the hex code off that back, it brought a message up on his end that said cannot complete operation: Alltel marketing restrictions, whatever that means. come on, this cannot be that difficult; they are both cdma, use practically the same network, and are both owned by the same major company. i've scoured the internet and found out how to activate verizon's data network on the phone AFTER it's been activated on verzion, but how can I even get it activated?? any help would be great.

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I called Verizon today, and apparently my follow-up was scheduled for 6/9, not today. Supposedly if the MEID is added into the DMD, it will work.
Was your Alltel Treo Pro's MEID in the DMD? Mine's Sprint, so there's no way it would be in the DMD. |
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
To be honest, I know what the MEID is, but I have no idea what DMD is, thus it's tough for me to say.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
DMD stands for Device Management Database, which is basically a list of MEIDs and ESNs that can be activated on the Verizon network. Verizon-branded devices are in there automatically, but my Sprint device isn't in there. Your Alltel may already be in there due to the merger (but marked as what you mentioned), which could be why they are getting an error message.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I understand; I've heard though that Verizon will activate any CDMA phone, regardless of company, so long as it complies with their service requirements and standards (E911, GPS location, etc), but evidentally this isn't the case. The rep that I spoke to told me that I may be able to activate in a couple months, but he's really just not sure. Is there any way I can get around this, or something else I can do?
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I'll keep you posted on how my Sprint device goes. It might be because your Alltel MEID is partly in the DMD. If it wasnt in the DMD, they would give you a MEID not found error.

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Ok, an update on what I've tried:
I went ahead and followed the thread "Alltel Touch Pro on Verizon," with directions on how to change the M.IP settings, as well as installing a DCD VZW carrier cab on the Treo Pro. I updated the PRL with the Verizon version 51143 using QPST, as well as setting up all the data settings in the EPST. I dialed the *228, got the Verizon OTA Programming menu, and selected option 3. I entered my number, password, and thought I had almost made it, until it said it was transferring me to an associate, at which point I was left on hold for almost 10 minutes and then I hung up, but it is Sunday so I'm not suprised. Perhaps a step in the right direction? |
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
It's supposed to go through automatically without the need to transfer to CS. I just get an error message if I do that.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Sure, I have done this on regular Verizon phones with no problem and no CS intervention, yet this is no ordinary case!
I'm going to try the Option 3 again tomorrow, let myself get transferred to CS, and see if it's not something I can talk them into doing. I've heard of people saying they have a Treo 700w/wx, etc, from another network. Perhaps I can convince them to go through with it. |
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
any word if you've found anything out yet?
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Nope, when I called them back on the 9th, they said that the form was still being processed. The rep re-submitted the form and I haven't heard anything back from them since then.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Update? Any luck?
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Nope...the form's just been sitting there, so I called again two days ago and they have escalated the case. Not sure what that means though...
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Any update?

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Nope...

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Hello, i am new to this forum and im curious to what is happening with this thread. I know there was an update yesterday, but is there anything as of today? This would be the route i would go as i have a 700wx and would love to have the Pro on verizon.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Unfortunately, I will have to say that unless you switch to Alltel, you're not likely to get a Pro on Verizon...

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
He could have been a Verizon employee or sombody with behind the scenes knowledge...the average person will not be able to manage this. I was the average person until I did some digging online and found out some details. You need to talk in their language...mentioning "DMD" to them got thins moving (for a while...).

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Hmmm... I just had an Alltel Treo Pro activated at my local Verizon store. Didn't seem to be a big deal but there was some kind of odd error message that came up on the screen and the lady called over another lady and she did a few things and basically said "There you go!". Not sure if it makes a difference but I didn't activate it "from scratch"... I'm in FL and our Alltel store and my Alltel account was converted to Verizon. I got tired of my Touch Pro and took an Alltel Treo Pro (bought off eBay) and asked them to just switch phones. Didn't take but a few minutes.
Everything seems to work fine on the phone that I've tried so far like text messaging and data/internet. I came to this forum because the GPS doesn't seem to be working (GPS Test never gets past "starting GPS" and Google Maps never gets past 0 sats) and was just curious if there were any known issues and just saw this thread so thought I'd chime in :) (if you know why my GPS isn't working, please let me know but I'll keep looking in the meantime :) ) Duh... it's been so long since I even bothered with the GPS on the Touch Pro that I forgot all about the "location settings" needing to be turned on. Quick search here reminded me ;) |

so, this might be a dumb question, you bought the treo pro off ebay after your account was switched to verizon? So in theroy it should be possible to activate a treo pro (that is either cdma sprint or cdma alltel and it should work?) I am just wondering if the local verizon store would actually cooperate with doing this? |

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I'm sorry I don't have any technical expertise to share, (and, frankly, don't know what a lot of the terms and instructions in this thread mean), but I can share my experience if it's helpful.
I was an Alltel customer. I bought my Treo Pro on July 1st at an Alltel store, (pre-Verizon merger finalization). Since then our account has been moved to the Verizon site and the there was no noticeable change in the phone or usage of it to me. The only service problem I have, (and it existed from the beginning), is that I can't receive Video MMS messages; what I get is a text message saying someone sent me a video message and a link to Alltel's MyPictures site. I've tried to call about it several times but lack the patience to wait more than fifteen or twenty minutes and have given up each time. It's very annoying, though. If I go to the site and downlad the video message to my Treo Pro it plays fine so I don't think it's a file compatability issue. Also, I can send them to my wife's HUE II Alltel phone, (purchased the same day and on the same Alltel/Verizon account), fine; I just can't receive one from hers. That may or may not be a Verizon issue; I honestly don't know. Any idea? |

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
A little progress on my Sprint Treo Pro...I had a friend activate it on PagePlus, a Verizon MVNO. That just might get my MEID into the DMD, and when I tried *228 option 3, it did not give me an error (just said that it needed to connect me to CS to complete it).
Unfortunately, right now, Verizon CS is closed, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to call them and see if it will activate... |
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
It is fully possible to use ANY CDMA Treo Pro on ANY North American CDMA carrier (with data working as well as voice/sms/etc). The same method used to make the Palm Pre work on Verizon applies here, there is no unlocker/hardspl/etc necessary. In fact, with a majority of phones there is no need for an unlocker/hardspl to use the phone on a different network. You don't even need to do anything carrier sided to get it to work, everything necessary is done by you at your computer. Afterwards you just call Verizon/Sprint/etc and your device will be active on their network.

Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Nope, online ESN changer doesn't accept non-VZW ESNs...
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
Could it be that it just cannot be done online? I don't mean to be rude but I can personally guarantee that it works as I have done it for a friend with my old Treo Pro and watched it go through without a hitch.
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
There was a brief period of time when there was a glitch and any phone could be activated using *228 option 3, so that is probably why it went through without issue. That back door has since been patched... :(
|
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
I was not aware of that, but it is still very possible to do it as of right now.
I would post the instructions but it consists of various federal offenses you will commit by doing so (and would probably violate the forum's rules?). I will tell you though that if you do still wish to purse this method you can find the information on a forum by searching google for what you intend to do, specifically. PM me if you have any questions. |
Re: Treo Pro on Verizon
