This very thing worked to get my touch to tether to my linux machines. However I too am not getting it to work on the Treo. Before, I'd attach my touch and it would connect right away. Nothing special needed to be done.
I haven't tried making the connection is windows yet, but I will to rule out it being linux. EDIT: Verified it's an issue in windows as well... I'm probably going to do a hard reset just to see. Last edited by ericthered; 08-06-2008 at 07:17 PM.

some have said that you should establish a connection through internet explorer, then try to connect through internet sharing
