Office 2007 file format and Treo 700wx

I'm surprised this hasn't come up on the forum yet, but i guess i just discovered it as well. Are Office 2007 file formats are unable to run on treo 700wx? I received an .xlsx (excel 2007 format) in an email and was unable to open it with an error stating it is an unrecognizable format. Has anyone tried or found a work around? (aside from of course opening on the computer and the resaving as a .xls then resending.)
