Just got brave and did this. A couple of things to consider especially if you're using Vista.

1. DON'T use the cradle. I couldn't get the phone off of bootloader or get it recognized by the OS after unplugging it to get past step 6 and started to freak out and even tried connecting the phone to another computer to no avail. I took the plug off of the cradle, plugged it directly to the phone, pressed and held the red power button, took the battery off and put it right back and the HTC device came right up. You can't do this with the phone in the cradle and is why I say to not use the cradle. One way to avoid this is...to not unplug the phone after step 6. Phone resets itself so there's no need.

2. If you're using Vista (original author mentioned he couldn't get the phone to be recognized by the updater) you'll need to go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> And RIGHT-CLICK on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator". If you have UAC turned on you'll get the "are you sure you want to do this" crap dialog box. Click continue and then you should be able to run the command with no problems.

The only reason I did this was to see if BT DUN would work correctly because my phone kept freezing up with hanip's BT hack whenever I connected to the BT DUN. I'll report back after I've played with the phone some and see if there are no problems.

Ok so after a day of using the phone I'm happy to report that my BT headset is now behaving a tad better and reception seems clearer. Did some tethering but not for very long. This update seems to have fixed some BT issues

I'll probably be doing some long-term tethering tomorrow so we'll see what happens then.

A question, after the flash, can you get back to the original Sprint rom? Or another phrase will be if there is a rom image to restore original Sprint load? A concern if it needs any service and the Verizon logo will not fly in Sprint store.

Probably not. You'll be stuck with the Verizon stuff until Palm decides to come out with the Sprint version of the ROM upgrade...unless someone knows where the logo used when turning the phone part on and off is stored at and if it's changeable.

Bump:

So now we have a Sprint updater out, anyone make or care to attempt to make progress on custom ROMs for Sprint and/or Verizon 700wx's?

At the very least--detail what we know so far (unless I missed it)?

tia

I have a Sprint Treo 700wx w/ firmware version 1.12 (Demo Device). The updater from Palm will not update the handset. Says its not sprint!

I extracted the contents of the Sprint 1.15 update to a folder using winrar. I put my phone in bootloader using ##8778# (UPST). I ran the command:

"F:\Treo700wxSprint1.15DesktopUpdater\ruucmd.e xe -asyncoff -t -v F:\Treo700wxSprint1.15DesktopUpdater\bootloader.ru u"

("F:\Treo700wxSprint1.15DesktopUpdater\" is just the location I upacked the update to, yours will likely be different) The command completed in seconds and this successfully got my Treo stuck in boot loader and i mean stuck. Soft reset, hard reset, nothing would make a difference

Now that I have committed my device I then ran the same command but pointed it to the FwAndRom.ruu:

"F:\Treo700wxSprint1.15DesktopUpdater\ruucmd.e xe -asyncoff -t -v F:\Treo700wxSprint1.15DesktopUpdater\FwAndRom.ruu"

and i saw magic happen. The device indicated that the radio was being updated and I could see the progress in the command line on the pc. It took a bit for the radio update to finish, about 5- 10min. It then started the firmware update which was also indicated on the device with a progress bar and i could see the percetage update on the command line. This took about 15 - 20min. When I was done the device rebooted to the Treo name on the screen and I left it there for about 10 minutes then tried a hard reset cause I am impatient. I should have done the hard reset right away, that was all I needed to do. I now have a demo device with v1.15. It still says 1.12 but i have the software store and THB kit which was not there before. Thank you for your info, without it i would have gotten nowhere.

Very good work, lattisimo and DavidIQ! Interesting read.

I'm hoping this can open the door for us to figure out hacking the ROMs... who knows, maybe someday we might have a chance at WM6.

Hmm, does anyone have a Sprint 1.13 or 1.14 ROM image sitting around? That would be super useful for those of us who "upgraded" to 1.15 before we discovered that it destroys USB DUN, and want to now "downgrade" to 1.13.
