Re: is the pre worth it?
HOW DID YOU DO IT?!?!?!?!
Ok, update. I used my HTC Hero for about 3-5 days. I'm switching back to my Palm Pre. I realized I need a better and easier to function phone, which would be the Palm Pre. Maybe when Google updates their software, the email thing was a big problem for me, and the battery life wasn't totally good and I don't want to go through the hassle of installing another SMS thingy thing. Helllllloooo Palm Pre! I'm sorry I left ya!

Re: is the pre worth it?
i have the htc hero and the palm pre (and a tour, but i'm not a BB fan), and i have to say i prefer the pre. as much as people have dogged the pre's keyboard, i think it's great. the keys have some grip and are spaced out so you know what you're pressing. i find that i can type faster on the pre than even the tour (though the tour's keyboard is much more comfortable). the hero's onscreen keyboard is not so great. i found that typing was easier on the diamond than on the hero, which is pretty crazy.
as ninjamom said before, the card system can't be beat. the problem i have with android (and BB for that matter) is the lack of a task manager. closing apps is a pain on either of those platforms and sometimes you can't even really close an app. with the pre, you can easily see, switch between, and close apps. for multitasking, webOS clearly wins, with WM next, Android third (with advanced task killer, app management is more palatable), and BB last. i also love the notification system on the pre. you don't have to stop what youre doing just to address an incoming notification, which is sweet. it will show you enough info on the initial notification so you can go to it if you want or ignore it for a bit and finish up whatever you're doing. on the hero, i hate having to stop what i'm doing and bring down the notification screen with no preview as to what the incoming message is about. another huge thing for me is the web. the pre's browser is much better. the pre's browser is faster and renders pages better. android's browser renders pages well, but the problem is that it always tries to text wrap, so when you zoom in, the rendering can be completely off. that also slows down the browsing experience and leads to pressing the wrong link when you zoom in because the field you're trying to press will move as it auto-wraps again. i also find the email on the hero to be a bit inconsistent. on the pre, i always get my emails before it hits my desktop, but the hero goes off and on. as for battery life, the hero wins there, but not by much. |

Re: is the pre worth it?
Thanks for all the info in this thread, I have a TP with SERO 1250 and I'm getting unhappy with my phone.
1. The chrome on my TP cracked and the Sprint won't fix it for free, they want $119.00 lol.... I said no. 2. I'm tired of these custom roms, I just want something that works.. I'm 35, a man, I don't have time for all this installation stuff, I have work, kids, woman.... give me a break WM... 3. When I tether with wmwifirouter, if I want to make a call or text, I have to close wmwifirouter. 4. WM just sucks but I do like some of the programs like Adobe Reader, AmazeGPS, Coreplayer and more. 5. No 3.5 headphone jack... I don't need a ipod, I want to take my phone to the gym and work out with it. The pre seems to fix the bill, I just want to make sure they have a good bill reminder... lol, calendar, Microsoft Office app and a good video player that plays all formats... I don't need much more than that. Gonna check out the Pre tomorrow. |

dude im in the same situation. 34 married kids etc.. and i to needed a break from wm..after looking at all the phones sprint has it was down to just 2 phones. the tour and the pre..i had a pre a few months ago that left a bad taste in my mouth..but after reading bout preware etc..i decided to give it another go..and im very pleased..load up what i need and thats it..no more sittting at the laptop for 2 hours trying to fix my diamond etc... all u need is to convert ur videos to iphone format..and ur good to go..
the on neg thing would be batt life..so i got the seidio extended battery..and am very happy now..the pre is a joy to use because of the extra weight. i have big hands..so it seems to be more balanced now... anyway go check it out..im sure u will be impressed... |
