Re: Palm Pre Apps
One app I like, even tho I do not have a Pre, is the Fandango app. For example, you can purchase 4 tickets for a movie, then select three of your friends from your contacts to send a text message with the movie name, time, and info on it all from inside the Fandango app.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
My teammate has the Pre. I've played with it a little and it's pretty smooth. I still can't get over that small hard keyboard. Just takes me back to my Treo days and I moved on long ago.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
i like the AP app, I cant live without the news so I like it.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
The only 3rd party app I've used extensively so far is the Accuweather app.
Aestheticly it looks wonderful. A Black and Grey lined background hangs in the background as if going off to the horizon, giving a "TouchFlo3D" feel to the app. The different headings throughout follow the general Pre feel of the nice rounded menu's with a gradient black/grey color. The icons are nice, with the colors jumping out even on the smaller ones thanks to the nice screen. Usability wise it has autolocation if you wish to have the GPS pick up where you are or you can enter in your location manually. It gives the currently recorded temperature along with the "Realfeel" temp along with humidity, wind speed, and moon phase for the day. It also displays a list of the next 4 days along with the current showing high and low and an icon of the general weather for the day. It can be slid to show up to 2 weeks of projected days. Under that area is a text area that tells you a little additional snippet about the day, such as "A strong afternoon t-storm". This annoying at times gets covered by an ad. Below that is a bar that gives multiple options ranging from the standard screen, an hour by hour screen of hte current day (I really like this), a radar screenshot for the time of the last update, and then finally what seems like a list of random weather related things (arthritis, astma, bbq, beach going, etc) and a comment about how fair the weather is in relation to those things. [For example, today it has Arthritis listed as Fair, BBQ as listed as fair, having a Cold lited as Excellent, and Lawn Mowing as Poor] Over all a really nice and robust little weather client that also has a great look to it. Will try to give more reviews as I use my 3rd party apps more. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
I was trying to find an online list of Pre apps to get an idea of what was available and found this. It has shots and descriptions of at least some of them.

*edit* Can anyone that has the phone comment on the typical cost of some of these? Actually, it looks like a lot of these are stock apps, and not from the app store? *edit* I can't seem to find a comprehensive list of the apps anywhere. I just read that they are all currently free apps though. Can anyone confirm that? |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
Actually Drybonz, they are a mixture of apps available in the App Catalog and stock apps. They are pretty much just widget style apps so far, but I wouldn't say they lack substance. I did find the AccuWeather and Fandango apps pretty useful, and I like the option of being able to view a trailer for any movie for Fandango. They are all free at the moment, like Connect 4, but none of the apps I've seen list how long the trials last.

Sprint has stated that no application will be over $5.00

I would like some more information on the apps/app store, as I am trying to make a decision on purchasing one. So since you own and are in love with the phone here is your chance to offer up some substantive information in support of it. Hook it up. |

Re: Palm Pre Apps
Here you go...quick list of all the current Third Party Applications as of 6/10/09. There are 26 of them.
Intuit GoPayment Where Today Show LikeMe Mobile Shortcovers Speed Brain GoodFood Sporting News Pro Baseball Infopedia Beta mCraig Beta Match.com AccuWeather Tweed Pandora Radio Fandango Flixster The New York Times Mobile by Citysearch AP News Express Stocks Connect 4 Demo FlightView Spaz Sudoku Classic As a note, Classic is most definitely going to cost more than $5 (I think its $20 or something). However, it also worked hand in hand with Palm and was given further access to the system then even most apps would be to allow for emulation of the old Palm OS |

Re: Palm Pre Apps
yea its the emulator for the older palm apps that no longer work but ive heard that its just a temporary thing since there going to remake the apps later anyway there just pushing things like twitter and Pandora right now.And as far as i know there two trails connect four and classic everything else is free.
|
Re: Palm Pre Apps
Yep, its the emulator. It doesn't work for ALL old Palm OS apps but it does for most. I'll see if I can dig up the website again and post a link up.
The hope is that yeah, a lot of these developers will make a new program for the WebOS but who knows when that will be and for some people they just like/miss the legacy PalmOS (I have no idea why). it opens it up in its own little card, along with virtual "buttons". |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
I got my Pre yesterday and have been playing with it since. The apps my kids love so far is Fandango. Smooth trailers and, using gps, it will list theaters near your location. I like AccuWeather but I cannot get the radar to zoom to my location.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
it sucks that there are no games so far, even standards like solitaire, bejeweled, etc. i'm sure they'll come soon.
so far the only games available are connect4, sudoku, and speed brain. of course you can load the classic emulator and load old palm games that way, but some of them don't work. but overall, this phone rocks. the potential is amazing, especially checking out the precentral.net forums and seeing how the early stages of hacking are already developing. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
sdk about to be widely available, so well see apps start to pour out....
|
Re: Palm Pre Apps
The intuiit Go Payment app is a cool idea. Being able to take credit card payments on your phone while away from the office is just nice.
I've been playing with the demo at my store (i'm a tech at a sprint store) and i'm really liking it. Now that people can get into developer mode, this phone will just get better and better. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
New today...
SplashID password manager and Evernote. Evernote is hard to explain but looks awesome. It is a notes system that incorporates camera pics. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
The MotionApps website lists the Classic Emulator cost at 29.99.
Just sayin. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
For anyone wanting to be able to sync Outlook contacts and calendar info there is a 3rd party app called PocketMirror available at http://www.chapura.com/pm_standard_pre.php
This is a beta version but I have tried it and the sync seems to work good so far. It syncs between your pc and pre through your local wi-fi network so you don't need any cables and it doesn't send info through the internet. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
For only being a limited SDK release thus far I have to say they've been doing a good job releasing an app almost every day. Up to 30 apps now in the first week of the device even being available.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
New today... an upgrade for the Flixster movie app.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
Im in here for 1 reason and one reason only, To HATE on the PRE.
What a load of horse nuts this phone is, Cant save a pic online? What, No video, Huh? I agree the UI is nice, but what the crap is wrong with just about everything else. Cant upload or Download from the web either? (atleast from what ive read), and Ive read about no cool apps yet. JUST Plain dumb phone. But to each there own, Maybe give this thing some time, but for now, I havenet seen anything special with this thing, Maybe someone else can help me out? I just dont get it, its a good phone, but in NO WAY can COMPARE TO MY TOUCH PRO. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
Quote:
to respond to your unnecessary rambling this is a 1.0 OS FYI but you gotta admit that a larger capacitive multi-touch screen is good for starters, a OS that doesnt need to be covered up like (put obvious name here....) and a device that performs twice as good stock than your rom flashed, reg tweaked, 25 installed-apps-just-to-make-it look-good Touch Pro. Did i mention that it doesnt have to be resetted every day? Or has any type of GFX issues? Or GPS lag? Did Sprint break any sales record with the Pro? You should see what real over the air sync is with Synergy. tch.... too bad it doesnt compare huh.....? Oh and the apps are coming and at a quite a fast pace so dont expect the Pre to have 50,000 apps from the get-go. But hey, to each their own right? I like the Touch Pro but uncalled ranting like this really annoys me... Back to topic.... |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
yo, doom is running awesome on the Pre!!! hardware accelerated GFX, looks like it can handle complex gaming after all
