Re: Palm Pre Apps
Question: from reading this thread there is NO over the air sync for contacts/calandar from Exchange???
Asking because some of the specs I looked at indicated that you could. If it won't it's a deal killer for me :( |

If I'm understanding you correctly, If it's like the older Palm devices it should sync with Exchange. You may need to have a plug in running on the Exchange server to enable that and it's not free. I tried to get my company to do that for me when I had a Treo and they wouldn't purchase the license. |

Re: Palm Pre Apps
Is there a website that lists the current applications available on the catalog for the pre? Been searching but haven't found a definite website..
And I know some people will say just go buy the phone but I am curious to see what apps are arriving and at what rate before I get the phone.. as that will change my decision! I'm tired of my Diamond and constant flashing to have it "perfect"! Thanks! |

Re: Palm Pre Apps
Picked up my Pre on release day, shelving my HTC Touch with WinMo 6.1 that had so many issues I don't even want to get into it. (What good is a PDA/Phone that screws up making/receiving phone calls anyway?)
So far I've pulled down quite a few apps and been fairly impressed with almost every one of them. Mobile by Citysearch. Sure, it's been around, but this version runs smoothly, gets GPS fixes quick and just plain works. Fandango. VERY nice app. Finds you via GPS, finds the theatres close, plays back trailers smoothly and quickly. Lets you buy your tickets in the app, etc. This is a nicer movie interface than anything I've come across on the Web. Classic. Works and works well. Even though there's a huge library of older Palm apps out there, I'm not real interested in running them via Classic as they just look so dated compared to the polish on Pre apps. Very nice to have just in case there's something you can't live without though. Where. A slightly different play on the Mobile by Citysearch app. This one is more geared towards bars and nightlife. Heh, has one button on the top layer to immediately find you the nearest Starbucks. ;) It's definitely more social, with Chat walls and the ability to have your own graphic avatar icon. Infopedia. Very nice front end to Wikipedia with a good search system. mCraig. Just relelased, a very nice Craig's list search/browser system. Heck, it's a hell of a lot NICER interface than the web interface itself. Shows all add pics well. Keeps a history of your search criteria so you can easily repeat your favorite topics. Allows bookmarking for easy call back, etc. I've found this Craigslist interface to be so much superior to their web interface that I turn to my phone to check Craigslist, not my PC. Speed Brain. This is the only app I've hit so far that was a waste of download time. It has one simple pattern matching game in it and seems to be more of an ad for the author than an app. Don't bother. Heck, I just checked the app store and there's a half dozen new apps that weren't there yesterday, I'll have to go check them out. Yes, the selection is small right now, but it's already tripled or quadrupled since I got the phone. Once more devs pick up the SDK it'll be a flood. We could only be so lucky for all future apps to be as good as what is currently out. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
i like the connect 4 game but i didnt like that i cant buy the game yet thats horrible, that some of these apps you cant even buy yet even if you like that, and i dont like that there are very few games for them, as my kids wanted to play a game on this, I still miss the nice keyboard i had on my HTC touch pro though i miss the stylus a lot too, getting used to not having a stylus is hard to do, plus a lot of the times the screen when i touch it does nothing so its hard getting used to that, and the settings are so different too, guess cause i never used a blackberry before i had not experienced the feel of using a keyboard like this and it is very small and it doesnt even have a delete key on it i dont think i like that either, but as for the apps i have to say the weather one is very nice.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
JUST got off the phone with Slingmedia, but they werent very much help. But he did say they are in development but dont know how long it could take seeing it is a whole new OS, that is the ONLY thing I am missing so far is my slingplayer. And I BET my 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse that if they do make the software, seeing how clear video is on this device I bet it would be sooo much better then it was on my Touch Pro. What do u guys think?

I have only tried one app, which did work, but there are some that do not so please no Chewing me out! Just trying to pass on some info. Go to the above link on your Pre's Web Browser! Supp'dtobe over 4,000 aps that run on WebOS.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
when an updated version of an app comes out, and you already have it downloaded, does it update on its own? or would i have to redownload it?

Ya, you can either go to updates an if an app you already have dowmloaded has an update it will show up, or you can go to the app store and it will tell you if you have an update and you just tap update now. |

Re: Palm Pre Apps
any ideas what will happen when unofficial apps start being installed onto the pre, i mean they think that home brews might get deleted in updates couldn't it be the same with apps were not supposed to install.

Re: Palm Pre Apps
I would love to see some games taking advantage of multi touch ect. On my IPod Touch the apps that I use the most are games.
Some games would be nice, I wish developers ported their games over. |
Re: Palm Pre Apps
OK I understand, todays smartphones lean twords apps. Seems iPhone fans love pushing "how many apps on apple store"....how many did they have first month of first iPhone release....none. I had a blackberry at the time and thought it was so cool berries had them. Then came app store and I said "well BB's have trial, if you don't like you don't have to buy. MY POINT....give it time, breath, PRE will get apps THEN whatever next mode will follow. We all want everything yesterday, when I say WE I include myself. I couldn't wait for PRE to be released...no alone I know. It's here and more cool stuff coming, lets enjoy the journey instead of crying about what we don't have YET.
