3d acceleration on a microsd

I was surprised nobody else here caught this yet.

This company apparently has managed to stick a 3-d processor on a microsd card and make it work.

This sort of thing makes me think twice about shelling out another $300 to upgrade from my old Mogul. If they've figured out how to boost performance by plugging in two more processors, maybe they can add some ram while they're at it.

Re: 3d acceleration on a microsd

That is awesome. If it has the ability to add memory/ram, it would be nice to select the amount. You could get a 16GB card, and dedicate 200 mb to memory.

Re: 3d acceleration on a microsd

the thing is, if you have a mogul... such an old phone, what would would the better graphics do if you can not change the fact that your screen is an extremely low resolution. these new phones are coming in 640x800 and similar resolutions... that's really what makes it "look nicer" and smoother... and greater image on the screen

Re: 3d acceleration on a microsd

This is great, if your phone has the highspeed connection to support it. I can't see the microsd connection being anywhere near fast enough. Maybe for future phones with a highspeed bus, but not for current ones. I could be wrong though.

Re: 3d acceleration on a microsd

I see your point but I would still step up to a TP to get the true benifits from this new tech if and whenever we get it. This could still be a few yeats from production anyway.

I thought about this for a minute. I remember some sort of performance test a year or two ago that showed minimal gains for anything over a class 4 memory card. I'm not sure how much the bus tech has advanced since then, but class 4/6 transfer speeds would give you a ballpark.
Then I thought that since processor, graphics chip and RAM all live on the sd card, maybe you don't really need a whole lot of transfer speed beyond basic image resolution. If you can watch a movie off of your microsd card, it should be fast enough for anything the FXI unit needs it to do. Your phone's ram and processor could essentially be idle.
