Torch Mobile acquired by RIM: Is this the end of Iris Browser on Qtopia and WinMo?

Torch Mobile has been acquired by RIM, maker of BlackBerry devices. RIM has been making waves claiming it will develop devices in the future to have browsers on par with that of the iPhone. This sort of confirms the intent, but does it mean that RIM won't work to surpass the iPhone's browser instead of getting "on par" with it?

RIP Iris Browser for WM, RIM acquires Torch Mobile

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/0...t-a-decent-br/

I think it's safe to say we won't see any further enhancements for Iris on WM. It's a shame too, I was using it more and more.

What's even more disappointing is we didn't get to see v1.2, which was supposed to be a huge update with possible UI changes.

Re: RIP Iris Browser for WM, RIM acquires Torch Mobile

Sad news, I guess we will never see version 1.2 they've been promising for awhile now. This is just a big slap in the face to all of us Windows Mobile users.

Now hopefully Dorthy (another webkit based browser) will start improving and take over where Iris left off.

and sadly it was only a .1 release away from the 1.2 release, I wonder how close they were on 1.2 before they got bought out.

Re: RIP Iris Browser for WM, RIM acquires Torch Mobile

I think they dragged their feet on the 1.2 release cuz they were in talks with RIM. I LOVED Iris. I don't know how I'll browse now. (slight exaggeration)
