in some points wm is, yes, but if you noticed some of the demo videos, the android rosie is pretty laggy on some things as well, which may ruin the hero experience. With the right tweaks, im sure you can get it to run smoothly, just as in WM. I have my 6.5 rom tweaked so that it goes very smooth with very minimal lag (if any). I don't see that there's much evidence showing android to be much smoother/faster than WM.

Isn't this just an options pack for Throttle Launcher? Shouldn't some graphic savvy guy or gal be able to port it over for VGA?

They sort of have that on the HTC Mega. Has that same blurry/opaque background the hero has.

in theory Android could be just as customized as WM, Android is at heart linux based so developers should be able to do anything with it however since its a new(ish) platform with only 2 (almost 3) handsets globally not much has been done with it (yet hopefully). and TMo didn't do the U.S. developer base by position the G1 as a average friendly everybody type of smart phone which makes sense for business reasons but doesn't make it appeal to hardcore users such as ourselves.
I hope this changes soon b/c Android should be capable of doing a lot of cool stuff just not at the moment

and yes portions of Sense UI will be ported to WM probably as a replacement for TouchFlo, i think HTC has said that since they unveiled Sense

I don't think it will be ported personally...that's just me but anything can happen in the smart phone/ppc game. But considering that there have been several retractions of the sense ui being ported on windows mobile and the date of the article, I would have to say doubtful
