Re: Verizon to be first with 4G in the US!!??

WiMax is NOT 3g or 4g

WiMax is a form of traditional wireless like 2.4 and 5.8GHz service just a whole lot faster.

3G and 4G is cellular data technologies that are completely different.

I personally will be interested in how far Sprint gets before it goes belly up trying to use Wimax instead of 4G.

Re: Verizon to be first with 4G in the US!!??

It does not matter who has it first. What matters is who will let the customers use it first. The first REV.A in the U.S. was built by verizon back in 2000 or 2001 if I'm not mistaken. The first phone to use the REV.A is sprint's mogul. So Where U wanna be?

I don't think they are going to use wimax. my contacts are always trying to talk up 4g to me.

Re: Verizon to be first with 4G in the US!!??

The iPhone 3G is not comparable to any phone on either Sprint or Verizon for the simple fact that the 3G data on AT&T's network is so very very limited in coverage area. So sure it can be faster, but when you can't use it in the vast majority of the country, what's the point?

My 2 cents (and I am a VZW employee, indirect channel)

And here is a good article about WiMax and LTE---- http://wirelessrain.wordpress.com/20.../lte-vs-wimax/

wimax IS the 4th Generation... it supposedly costs much less to set up since its completely wireless... wimax is gunna be the next cable modems, but wireless, which makes it less costly to set up... so new offices being built would most likely have wimax instead of ethernet wired through everywhere...

sprint keeps delaying wimax cuz they don't want to screw it up with an early launch... if they aren't prepared and give it a shot, the recognition and respect for wimax will fall and it might NEVER be seen again.

a wimax enabled phone WILL be costly at first... but think about it.. in 10 years, nearly everyone will have the ability to have wimax in their homes and pretty much on every phone. it will take over cable and comcast.

From my understanding of who would have access to 4G first is in that if Verizon does have the 4G technology first, it will then be able to offer up gsm service as well as others opening up different types of devices in turn meaning a bigger competitor.

Thats my understanding. Correct me if wrong.
