Probably fourth quarter of this year, alongside Android, itself.

Re: HTC Dream with Google Android Screenies/Video!!

I'm really excited about the fact that Android can be put on pretty much any device out there. It even mentions phones without screens. If I can't afford the Dream when it comes out, the prospect of being able to put Android on my Touch is pretty freakin' cool if you ask me. Yeah I know the guys over at xda and here are working on Android on multiple phones to get it working properly, but nothings nicer than something that works well right out of the box.

Knowing myself though the Dream will be in my hands as soon as a U.S. carrier gets it (hopefully all of them or if just one, Sprint).

Keep in mind, they're referring to Android being designed with any form factor of phone in mind. They're not saying that they'll simply release it so you can INSTALL it on any phone you like. Granted, the people at XDA will manage to make it work on quite a few devices over time, and I doubt Google will so much as blink at it being done, but that's completely different from them releasing an installer that will just put it on any phone you plug into your computer. There are drivers to worry about, and bootloaders to hack through. Google could get into legal trouble by releasing software that cracks the protection built into phones, and would open themselves up to trouble for potentially bricking phones. No, I see Google aiming for this to be an ultimate phone OS available to manufacturers of all sorts, but I don't see them officially supporting it being installed onto pre-existing, already-purchased phones.

Yeah, I'm more expecting to get specific versions tailored to fit the phone and the carrier. Then it will just be a matter of hacking open source code to tweak and customize it.
