Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
I did all my stuff in a hex editor,
Search for string E9 FD FF 00 in a hex editor, once you find that, delete everything before that and above out. and save it. this new file is now your OS.NB.Payload, you can use standard rom dumping tools to get all the files and everything out. Search for ECEC (text) for the xip, it should be the second on. and the XIP should start with somethig like 75 2D 00 EA, I say search for the text cause that is always there, and on motorola the XIP start address is different. Search for F8 AC 2C 9D E3 D4 2B 4D BD 30 91 6E D8 4F 31 DC This will be the imgfs start address. so using those address you can get all of the files extracted and everything else. from there use standard tools to decompile everything. |
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
I tried just about everyhing to create a custom firmware, all with the same result. Flashed it completely with MSU but didn't reboot. I used imgfs tools to extract/repack and used hypercore kitchen to build. I used XIP port to port XIP it was able to create it, but not able to extract it once created.

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
I have a co-worker with this phone and I was telling him to check this site for an WM6 upgrade ROM and it appears this is the closest thing to one being available right now. I wanted to encourage you to keep at it conflipper and appreciate the work that you are doing. Hopefully you are still making progress on this.

found a link to a GSM Rom big guy suppose it might be easy to rip the guts out and throw it into a cdma rom.... just a thought |
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
I'm still using my Sprint Moto Q, would love to have a better ROM for it and run WM 6.1, or at least 6.0. I'm considering getting a Touch Pro 2 when they come out, but really want to keep the slim phone as I carry it in my pocket. What I'd really like is the Diamond 2 or the Touch HD to come to Sprint too! Anyways, I've been thinking of trying to hold out until a good slim touch Tegra-based phone comes out, and upgrading my Q would help a lot in keeping me satisfied.
Thanks for your efforts con! |
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
grrr..... lets try this again
i am mobile right now, been spending the past week packing everything up and getting ready to move. so i have had little time to be on pc at all, kinda sucks. this is still on my list of things to do, and it will get to be done. there is one thing i learn young, and that is to not give up, once you start something you finish it. and so i will get this. and it will be sooner rather then later. on a side note, vzw is getting diamond2, so im sure sprint will has well, i doubt one cdma carrier would get it and not another. so look forward to that. |

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Woah, awesome!
I started poking around Google today to see if anybody had done anything neat with the Q recently, and I stumbled upon this thread. Awesome work, I can't wait to see the final results! |
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Has this been tried on the Moto Q9c
|
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Q9m, Q9c, Q9n, and Q, are all the devices that I have right now that I can test on.

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Back in March trintek posted his procedure for modifying an .sbf to contain a custom boot logo. This was done using a couple moto-specific bootlogo-editting utilities, that operate directly on the monster file.
Don't know if that procedure is relevant or helpful at all in your endeavor, but as far as I know, this was the first time somebody had success flashing a modified .sbf file to a moto Q. http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/sh...193#post508193 ---------------------- Can't wait to see your reults, this will be a major accomplishment! Thank you for the effort on this, and all the other stuff you've done. (such as your 10-21-08 Vogue Manilla ROM which I'm still using!) |
Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Hey con, where you able to port the XIP? Everytime I try, it always says not enough space. I have to delete FileManager.EXE.0409.MUI for it to run "realloc p" properly. Even then, I have exclamation points in my Map.txt.

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
yeah i can get the xips to port fine, i have done 6.0 6.1 and 6.5 xips, i use LennySH xip kitchen to do it, and that just uses the xip.bin from donor and device and combines parts taht it needs to

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
dont know if it helps, but i stumbled across this, havent looked at it but says it is custom wm 6.1 for the q gsm ftp://xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Upl..._by_allway.zip

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Good job!
I also use SBFCodec.exe to get the os.nb(CG40 file) a question is I can use osnbtool.exe to split the xip.bin from Q9c wm6.1 rom ,but I can't deal with motoQ.sbf use the same tool, I have try to exchange the cg33&cg40 files in different .sbf file, but flash fail at a 99%. I have used your Q9c.xip and Q.xip and got the new.xip by XIPKitchen.exe,Can you share the SYS and OEM file? so I can rebuild wm6.1 ROM to test. |

I don't think that's true. I'm able to flash a custom rom I made myself completely, even RSD Lite says PASS, but the phone gets stuck in bootloader. |

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Awesome.. have a Q9c on one of my lines. My daughter has the phone. Would love to update it to a tweaked OS that doesn't lock up all the time. She's been through like 2 or 3 phones and they all seem to do it.

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
no this has not been abandoned, I am trying to juggle 4-5 projects right now, and I am working on this when I can. I am making progress, and I have stated in the past that I do not just quit something I have started. So I will get this, its taking longer then I wanted, but I will get this.

Re: Custom ROM on Motorola Q *Project*
Hey Con I was just wondering if any progress has been made from start. I know this is a very challenging task, and I am extremely grateful for your hard work and time. I was just wondering what kind of hurdles do you need to cross before you have something that is runable on a Motorola Q. As in doesn't have to be 100% stable just has to start up and work alittle bit. Anyways Thanx again.
