mp3 player (App) with convenient song selection tools?
Hi , Can anyone suggest an mp3 player that will allow for forwarding thru tunes without having to unlock the Droid (my friend's Eris - if using the built-in player you can froward/reverse thru tunes without having to unlock - the buttons appear on the unlock screen) ?
Also - if there's a mp3 player that will allow for any other methods to switch through songs besides the normal on-screen buttons - such as hitting the camera key to maybe forward (next) thru songs or "shaking" the Droid to go to the next tune ? Basically , I'm looking for something that will allow you to go thru / change tunes without unlocking the phone , then going into the actual music (player) app & then having to use the small track buttons (to be able to easily change songs while exercising or going to sleep for example). I really like the Astro player it (finally) allows me to play songs based on their FILE location rather than tagged info which is something I'm grateful to find but I'm quickly finding out that the Droid doesn't make a good substitute for an mp3 player because it's difficult to switch thru tunes (compared to hitting a button on an mp3 player) - i know the Droid isn't an mp3 player but it makes a great one - if only i could go thru the tunes without having to get into the full app. Thanks for any suggestions. Edit - I tried the MixZing app and just realized that it has an option to use controls on a wired or Blue-tooth headset - I'm not sure which capabilities this would provide - volume , track selection - I don't have a headset to check it out - at least this is in the right direction though . Re: mp3 player (App) with convenient song selection tools?
It could, and it should. But sadly, there isn't much available (yet). Also, all the new phones are coming out with minimal physical buttons under the screen. Just one of the reasons I still have Vogue, with it's nice big 5-way nav pad that's easy enough to use by feel, great for adjusting music while driving.
All 3 of my player apps allow mapping of player functions to hardware buttons. And 2 of them also allow you to choose whether those buttons continue to function after minimizing player. So you can leave the player, go to your workout app, let music play, and use hardware buttons to change tracks, volume, etc. But that's on WinMo and with a big 5-way button. All these Droid phones have a small 'track ball' which isn't really a track ball at all. It's more of a saw'd off joy stick, easily failing to do what you intend when you reach out to jump to next track while running on a treadmill or driving and keeping eyes on the road. Why are new phone models abandoning those of us who want a true convergence device used as much as an MP3 player as any other use? Feeling frustrated, MrG |

really if the Trackball on an Eris or N1 could be used to go thru tunes when the phone is locked , that would be "ok". the droid - if the D-Pad could be used that would be ok too - maybe music Android apps will support other buttons for controlling mp3's. |
