can apps from earlier os versions run on droid?

if the app came out for the earlier os versions with the g1 etc, can the droid play them also even though it's os is 2.0?

Re: can apps from earlier os versions run on droid?

Most, not all. If there are issues you can usually spot them in the reviews of the apps at the marketplace.

Some work fine but are not optimized for the higher resolution screen so end up looking cheep. Anything that requires the phone being rooted also won't work.

I would say from my experiences, that apps not working on 2.0 is the exception and not the rule.

Re: can apps from earlier os versions run on droid?

bandens got it right, most of the really good apps are being updated to take advantage of the newer phones high res screen also.

Re: can apps from earlier os versions run on droid?

I've got 88 apps installed on mine, all compatible with the newest android system, and I've easily installed and removed twice that number. I've encountered maybe 20 or so that seemed like they were incompatible with some aspect of 2.0. Also noteworthy is the fact that I've still got 135MB available of the phones on board 256MB so with 88 apps installed I've used slightly less than half of the storage space.
