avail memory

2 part post...

1) what does your avail memory sit at before you clear your apps. what is it afterwards?

2) can you notice a difference in performance between after and before you clear your apps?

Re: avail memory

After I've been using it for awhile it usually sits around 20mb available. I've tried clearing it with task killers but there was no performance difference, considering it wasnt slow before. Android is set up to work this way, it will allocate memory as necessary for best performance of the task currently being used.

Wow how did you get your memory to run that low, just to test it out i have had 28 programs going and still had 30+ mb available. when i clear it i have 70+available but it run smooth and speedy sitting at 30 or 70. This phone is a beast.!!!!!

Re: avail memory

Maybe I'm reading it wrong? Right now it says Avail: 14MB+25MB in 8 Other: 54MB in 3. I was taking the 14MB avail as the free unused RAM, is that wrong? I keep everything going all the time GPS, Bluetooth, you name it, but it doesnt seem to slow it down at all and I dont see any speed increases from using a task killer to close apps This phone is killer, it seems to run flawlessly no matter how many things I have going on it

Re: avail memory

I should try a day without using a task killer. It usually drops down to about 30mb after I open a couple apps. When it I see a little lag I kill all except some ignored apps like messaging, gmail, calendar, Alarm clock, Locale, Where`s my droid, facebook, and Google Voice. My free ram then shoots to about 70mb, and I do see a considerable speed improvement. I`m also worried about apps running in the background draining my battery, so I close them when I don`t need them. I`ll do a more scientific test over the next few days and report back.

Re: avail memory

I'm also doing a battery drain test in the "battery life" thread. Shouldnt be long for the final results, I'm down to 20 percent now .

Maybe we have diff looking results because we use different task managers. I have never had to kill apps due to a lag i just do it out of habit of having devices that didnt run so well multitasking
