Yahoo Mail on Droid setup

Passing this along to everyone.. maybe Yahoo will unlock the email soon to where it just works without this.

Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....

Imap server - imap.mail.yahoo.com

SMTP Server- smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

Works fine but doesn't give a new email icon like gmail simply overtakes the email icon.

Re: Yahoo Mail on Droid setup

Is there a way to be notified of new emails on the Yahoo account on the home screen, with a widget? All I have been able to do is create a shortcut to the account with the new mail notification appearing on the top bar which is very hard to read. WinMo just told me how many new emails I had on the home screen and I can click on it to read them.
I won't even touch the 2 separate email account programs for Yahoo and GMail; but if someone knows how to merge them I would be eternally grateful

Thanks in advance

click "menu" touch button on the home screen and then notifications from the pop-up ... you should see all emails there. You'll also get an email icon at the top left of the screen when new emails are downloaded.

Re: Yahoo Mail on Droid setup

I have noticed that with these settings I get intermittent account errors on the yahoo email - it ends up pulling it but sometimes it errors and says invalid acct info...

doesn't seem like yahoo plays well with google ... not a big suprise - lol

FYI - I did configure my Fiance's phone as described. It had some trouble connecting at first and I followed everybody's instructions of disabling the WIFI and other GPS and sync programs. After trying many times, it finally added the email. Unfortunately it is not stable. I think that this is partly due to Yahoo not wanting free accounts to be forwarded. After a day, it had communication errors and stopped receiving emails. I then could not add the email after I took it off. I then tried to add the POP3 settings for her paid Yahoo through SBC or ATT. The POP3 settings are in your email options. Go to your mail, options, then POP3 and forwarding. I set this up without problems. If you try and go to the free account to look up the POP3 or IMAP settings, there aren't any. Somebody figured the above settings out. The other thing probably causing problems hooking up the free Yahoo is that Yahoo is under construction. Good luck all.

Re: Yahoo Mail on Droid setup

I use the below settings; have seperate shortcuts on the desktop & different ringers. I have 3 email accounts 1 exchange, 1 yahoo & 1 gmail. They are all seperate, sometime the Droid will combine the first two if I get multple emails together, but they will be kept sepereate.
Imap server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
port 143
SMTP Server- smtp.mail.yahoo.com
port 587
