Adobe says it will release a beta of Flash Player 10.1 for smartphones running Google's Android OS later this month. This will allow users to access websites that use Flash for navigation, as well as watch streaming Web video.
Kevin Lynch, the Chief Technology Officer at Adobe, said that a public beta will be introduced at the Google I/O conference May 19-20. A full version will be released in June. In addition, Google plans to build this technology into Android OS 2.2.
The Android version will be the first of many. Lynch says that his company is working on versions for BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7, Symbian, and others.
The list doesn't include the iPhone OS, as Apple has blocked Adobe's attempts to bring Flash to its smartphones.
